Here comes the tariffs.......

To me tariffs are like sanctions. Why have them against allies? American commodities will be much more attractive to friends.

Especially when they are going to be felt in a negative way in your own economy......

The stock market is reflecting these tariffs in a negative way......all the economists are saying tariffs won't work and are destructive and even the WSJ is saying this is a bad move by the administration.......

I wonder how much more can be done to reinforce that these are a bad idea?

In my own personal case, tariffs won't affect me very much if at all.....everything I have is paid for, there is only my wife and I at our home and we grow lots of our own food and are financially stable...........thank goodness......

The US under this administration reminds me of a story....

One of my neighbors who is a military veteran and like myself spent over 30 yrs in uniform...I bumped into him later in my career here and there....

He's pretty handy with carpentry and one time I asked him if it was possible for him to lend me a hand on a project I was doing......all I was asking for was a little guidance to make sure I was doing it right.......he told me "sorry I only do that sort of thing for friends or family and you are just a neighbor." Honestly I was taken aback quite a bit mostly because of our mutual background serving in uniform....I kind of figured we were at least kindred spirits.....

Later in that year when it was winter, he asked me to look after his driveway when he went away and although every fiber of my being was screaming at me to say no out of principle.........I merely said "normally I reserve this sort of thing for friends and family but as you are a neighbor, I will look after your driveway...." He kind of blinked but I think he got what I was alluding to.........

So anyone can understand why Canadians are pissed off....not out of anger necessarily but out of betrayal and hurt by our neighbor.....

We are a weak country when it comes to military might, we are sparsely inhabited so in the eyes of a person like Trump, we are ripe for the picking......bullies like to attack in these situations........they certainly don't go after the big, tough countries......

All one has to do is look at the threats on smaller, weaker countries by The US who is their supposed protector.........we are witnessing a shift in the global alignment where Clark Kent went into the phone booth and came out as Lex Luther........

........and this will not be forgotten.......even Canadian pro-Trumpers are now rethinking their alignment towards him......

This speech should be a sobering one to the Trump administration.....

China's goal is to take over global dominance and they have been building their military and economic power to rival the US........

Pushing them around and bullying them probably isn't the best course of action.....they aren't a weak country unlike Canada and Mexico who are easy to push around....

Thanks in large part to our policies.

I'm glad we finally got someone with enough balls to try and reverse some of their power and influence.

The U.S. now has re-asserted it's interest in the Panama Canal and sent China packing.

China has been trying to get the $$ replaced with the Yuan as the world reserve currency. And we just stood by and did nothing.

So yeah, we need to make China a smaller threat any way we can.

You and I both know that China sits back and builds.....and builds and builds......they are a patient people....so far they aren't out in the world starting wars or overtly meddling in other countries foreign policies......they are like crocodiles and lay in wait and build their resources........Prophets have predicted that one day "the yellow man will inherit the earth."

..........I'm not a fan of China in any way, shape or form but to actively go out of a person's way to poke them to me isn't the best way....

Unfortunately, this administration will do nothing to usurp Chinese power and influence as it's efforts are to take the American "brand" off the global stage.......and who do you think will pick up the title? Sadly, it will be China.....

China owns over $800 billion in US interests........maybe even more by now......that's almost a trillion dollars.......I'd be more worried about that.

Well we definitely had economically beat them up pretty good until COVID happened.

China had suffered its worst economy in years largely due to us poking them.

And yes we owe them a lot of $$. And we are finally starting to take that problem head on again.

They also rely on us heavily for food. So it's not like we are helpless against them.

China learned from us how to intertwine themselves into as much influence worldwide as possible.

And we sat back for decades and let them.

And they most definitely meddle in other nations policies. Ask Argentina this week. Ask the Philippines. Ask Taiwan. Ask Africa.

What we have to remember is that it wasn't that long ago that the US (and other allies) were in China defending them against the Japanese invasion because they were helpless..........in a relatively short time they went from not being able to defend themselves to being a world superpower and they are only growing and getting stronger.....

The US along with it's allies need to stand tall and take any and all advantages away from China getting more world power....this administration seems to have a foreign policy that will allow China to gain footholds previously held by the US (if it isn't careful) and we don't want other countries aligning with China as a result of these footholds......

I just think these government reduction moves should have been better thought out on a strategic level.....the government can't be managed as if there is a a financial bottom line attached.......if it were, one major military exercise would be a staggering financial loss.....millions of dollars can be spent in a very short time during these large scale training exercises.....

It appears there was more of a dollar figure attached than a strategic gain when it came to the hacking and slashing of governmental programs........

This is how my business is responding:

We are dealers for eight cabinet (residential/commercial) manufacturers.

We were negotiating with a Canadian manufacturer, doing frameless, with good customization abilities, as it looked like a really good fit. Off the table now, that business will be going to a manufacturer in Gastonia NC. Price is pretty much on par, less customization, but workable. It means the customers will still get the same price, only difference is it would be made in the USA.

We have two import cabinet lines. The quality is excellent, the prices are very low, but the selections in door style and colors are limited. They have packaging labeled as made in Vietnam, the product is manufactured in China, then shipped to Vietnam, then shipped from Vietnam, to a distributor, with operations in Raleigh NC, Houston TX, and Florida. I don't think anything will change here.

Give me an example of how our current administration is doing this.

I'm not sure I follow how any of our cost cutting measures have weakened out ability to hurt China or has helped China.

And I'm going to challenge how it's not about money. We owe $800B to China. If we didn't, we'd have more $$ to spend on defeating them.

Soon our interest payment on our nation's debt will be more $$ than we are spending on our own military defense. So I'm sorry, but yeah it's about $$.

Shutting off all USAID regardless of what it was is one way.......

These abandoned people will now be looking for help and if China picks this up, it will place them in a good position.

I don't trust pretty much anything that comes out of Doge but if some of these found expenditures were true, they definitely should have been ceased right away.....but there were other initiatives that were really helping the world while presenting a positive spin on the "American Brand" which in some cases saved American lives........I've seen this in action first hand.

Once the US withdraws itself......someone will take it's place.....I'm not saying that it will be China, but it could be.....they are actively seeking ways to further expand their influence.......
