Here comes the tariffs.......

I use to play a lot way back, but like anything if we don’t use it we lose it.
I still play occasionally, however knowing I am out of practice, depending who I play, I find it a bit stressful. I seem to lack strategy and focus only on defense.
If I play the computer at level 2, most times I can mate it within 10 minutes. Beyond that it is tough.

Picture is a chess set, table and all the pieces handmade by myself.

That's a very nice set....well done.....

Word of advice, leave the sarcasm to MPH.
Doesn’t suit you well. I rode yesterday as well.
Sorry, was trying to be funny with something relevant.

Thing is, some have Trump derangement syndrome so bad, no matter what he does, there will always be criticism. It gets a bit old.

So you don’t see a connection with China suddenly levying tariffs? Do you think that the tariffs against Canada are legitimate and justified? The prices of goods will only go in the wrong direction for everyone.
That and his turning on Zelenskyy at the modulation of the idiot Vance, his desire to take over the Panama Canal, Greenland and Gaza is the derangement I see.
This thread is supposed to be about tariffs so I’ll try to stick to that.

Have you researched what is reciprocal and whether there is no justification?

This is ripe for sarcasm on my part. Of course I have. Calling the passage of fentanyl at the Canadian border, or illegal immigrant crossing into the United States at the same border as justification is ludicrous. There is no record of any such movement to near the extent that would justify the tariffs. There is. of course, such a problem at the Mexican border. As juvenile as it sounds, it appears Trump got his feelings hurt when he talked about Canada joining the United States and was quickly rebuffed by Canadian officials, so he added Canada to Mexico as victims of the tariffs. As far as reciprocal, Canada answered with tariffs of their own, and now China has joined the party started by our chief executive..
That, in my opinion, is derangement on the part of Trump. He has some good ideas which are enshrouded by bad ones.

What about long standing dairy 250% plus and lumber tariffs from Canada? What about banning EV imports from China?

Why did Canada spend 1.3 Billion to increase border security, if there was no problem?

As you said, long standing and accepted by both sides to protect Canada's dairy and lumber industries. I think I read the Wisconsin has more trees than all of Canada. Regardless, the new tariffs are not a reciprocation, they're a taunting response to Canada not wanting to join the U.S.
This is of course only my opinion

"Why did Canada spend 1.3 Billion to increase border security, if there was no problem?"

Because they have integrity and aim to keep it that way

Why can American banks not operate in Canada, without Canadian equity ownership?

Have you ever tried to do physical work in Canada, representing a US vendor, getting paid by the US vendor in the US?

So in your view it is fair for countries to protect their industries, because they have been spoiled to do it for a long time, and we may not reciprocate? That sounds fair to you?

Yes in this case very much so. The sudden change in policy by Trump is leaky and uncalled for. It’s like a person has an agreement with their neighbor about property lines for years, and wakes up one morning with a hair up their butt about it. They then blame their neighbor for any reaction to the sudden change. That’s what good neighbors do; they make compromises in the direction of loyalty. When this stopped being our directive I’m not sure, but I’m guessing it was about 5 weeks ago. This new selfish policy is appalling to me.

I retired from Campbell Soup in 2016, had a factory in Toronto. From ingredients, to cans to anything. Was an absolute pain to deal with government bureaucracy as a US company. Use to fly into Buffalo NY and then drive over the Naigra to Toronto. Had to present a letter stating I will do no work other than attend meetings at the border.

Our vendors supporting equipment doing specialized work were not allowed to use Americans. They had to employ Canadians, train them and equip them. Not enough work to keep them busy in Canada, so they spent 95% of their time working in America as Canadians, as we don’t have the same restrictions here.

Fair trade meant with sarcasm.

I followed the election campaigns pretty closely, and I don’t recall Trump talking about using tariffs, especially against Canada. His main point was that he would lower prices on groceries and goods. Now because of the tariffs, he can’t rule out a possible recession. Quite the opposite of his campaign platform. The American public, that chose to believe his rhetoric, will survive his antics but they shouldn’t have to. In my estimation, his first month in office borders on a fiasco.

There isn't an economist out there that will say Tariffs are a good idea and every one of them that I've read on say the opposite and can't understand why they are being enacted other than petty revenge.....

Threats of annexation, levying tariffs and calling our leader "Governor" is incredibly insulting and childish......(even though our current prime minister is a tool bag....it isn't right).

I do believe the threats Trump is making and the levying of tariffs is a good thing.....it has spawned a new degree of Canadian patriotism (which we needed) and it shows us America isn't our friend and can't be relied on under this administration which forces us to seek other trading partners of which there are many......

We need to get our arses in gear and get our pipelines finished so we can get our oil and gas to other markets which will make our oil worth more......the US is our sole customer and is paying 15 dollars a barrel less than global market prices.....then we buy petroleum back at global prices....

I also think our premiere is being petty enacting a surcharge on electricity sent to the US....there's no need for that but it goes to show just how pissed off we are right now.

I also see America's former allies looking at other venues for their goods and starting to turn their backs on the US.......

Not good.........
