04 gsxr600 speedo problem

My buddy just bought an 04 gsxr 600 and the speedo just stopped working. The odomteter works but the speedo stays at 0. Any ideas of places to look at? I figured the speed sensor or whatever is down by the shifter is either unplugged or damaged.

On my old r6 if you stood on the left side of the bike and took a knee and looked in towards the shock you could see the sensor and wire. Not sure if this helps though.

If the Mileage meter is working but the speedo read is not, I would think it's in the speedo guage cluster. I'm suspecious you'll need a new speedo cluster? Just a hunch!

They both stopped working now...

Ive never messed with a gsxr600 so i have no idea what could be wrong and the guy who owns it has no clue about bikes

Id say cluster if they both are out now, got another 600 sitting around to swap out and see?

Send them to Blue Guages, they fix them cheaper than buying used guages. The used ones odometer wouldn't match anyway...which they also can correct.
