05 busa shifter problem

Just a heads up folks. A while back someone posted that the shifter can come loose on the '05 model. I Had this happen to me on the road last week. Tried shifting down prior to taking a corner and could not find the shifter. (Because it was dangling by the linkage cable)

No big deal because it is easy to fix with some locktight but thought I'd post a reminder to everyone.

I have checked mine out and it seems fine. It does worry me though after reading all of these cases.

I had the same thing happen to me on my 05. As I down shifted before a red light, the shifter fell off. I screwed back in by hand and took it back to the dealer. My dealer in Oakland Ca. took care of it A.S.A.P.

I check mine before every ride. No problems so far

A set of rearsets will fix that too. Mine was all scarred up from the same thing.

will pull the bolt and add loctite as a preventative meassure.

I made myself a custom box end to tighten the rear locknut. With the Buell pegs it is almost impossible to get to with a regular box end. Check those locknuts often.

When mine came out, I added blue loctite, not a prob since then, but I still check it before each and every ride as part of my pre-ride inspection.
