08 Minor Rear Fender Mod

Have seen a few fender mods already. I wanted to leave the fender protecting the body, at least for now. In Virginia I usually have a trooper or two pass me on the dark interstate coming into work. So I decided to leave the plate light on for now. All I did was relocate the bracket and chop a little off the bottom of the fender. I think it looks a little better, at least until I find the aftermarket I like. Here is the original bracket.

Here is the relocated braket. I drilled two holes and mounted below the beefier bracket. I used some larger washers on the inside of the fender, since the plastic there was not as beefy as the original. Then I chopped any protruding fender from the bottom.

Here is the cut piece. It has a little rubber tab the plate use to rest against.

Here is the end result. I think it looks a little better? Plate is still illuminated. Plate is now mounted with bottom bolt holes rather than originally top bolt holes. Whole job maybe only took 15 minutes.

I thought there was 3 pins located in the hump that would just release and drop the whole piece away? Am I wrong? and just re-install a new plate mount bracket, at least this is what others are telling me

This mod wouldn't work for me very well.

I haven't owned a car for over 10 years; I ride work to year-round. Some of our Pacific Northwest winters can be pretty gnarley here in the High Desert of eastern Washington. No fender is a bummer when riding through slushy, snow-muddy roads....
