I know it's mostly speculation at this point, but what do you think? As much as I like the 1k Gix I'm thinking the R1 will likely surpass it. The R1 motor with the Crossplane crank and firing order will be interesting to see and hear. Looks to be a MotoGP bike for the street.

I like them both but your correct about what kind of real power the new R1 motor is going to produce. Should be sweet.

I couldn't decide between the two bikes. I was going back and forth on which "virtual bike" I was going to buy next season.

The pictures came out... and I bought a BKing! WINNER

Yamaha has always been down on power so it will be interesting to see if they really do make a come back.

Yamaha may indeed surpass the mighty Gixxer but thus far, Yamaha has fail to achieve that goal. Although the R1 is a sweet ride.

The ZX10 showed us that raw HP does not move a bike to the top of the heap.

The power doesn't change it's the delivery to the rear tire (rear wheel torque/thrust) that's changed for the R1. I would speculate that on tight tracks it'll improve the lap times. For the street, performance wise I don't think it's much of an advantage. For the street it's still average hp and torque that wins.

I like the R1 tech but I'll be honest, the bug eye front end made me wanna :puke:

I can't wait to hear what the R1 exhaust song is going to sound like. Power isn't everything. The CBR1000RR seemed to be the king of the liter bikes for 08 and also the one with the least HP.

I had to laugh though the R1's rearsets are adjustable, 5mm down?

All you have to do is ask! Link

But Honestly I think the new Suzuki is going to be a finely honed weapon VS the new R1's untried (on the street) tech.

both bikes will be good , i'm sure , but i will get the Suzuki for sure :)

Being that I am looking into this too, I see the Gsxr 1k taking it from the Yamaha R1. Yamaha has been playing catchup for too many years. Honda finally got the bag last year, but it took them along time to get it. I think the suzuki will still hold its own as the well rounded machine. I guess we will have tgo wait for the results........:cheerleader:

+1 that's what I read, no change in power.

Yami engineers asked what they wanted, more power or more controllability...
some idiot picked controllability  so they put all their eggs in the cross spline
tech ??? I seriously doubt any of us will really notice it (maybe I'll be dead wrong)
but I bet we'd all notice 20 more hp...each and every day.

Still like the R1 as my favorite litre bike. Looks are just perfect and they got more
umph than most of us need or can use...
The Zuk is a close second...2nd used to be the ZX10 with the undertail exhaust but
a few of the honda ugly engineers snuck over and fugged up the zx10...
not to mention no more undertail exhaust..and I love undertail exhaust.
CBR - great reviews for the bike but OMG UGLY.

Sorry but for me all the liter bikes are too close together performance wise
to just not let looks decide the winner and the R1 takes it.

I doubt power is going to be an issue.... between the two bikes, RIDER will be the difference...

I think that although the HP might be middle to lower end of the pack for the R1 it will be the faster bike on the track do to its power delivery. The dyno chart will prolly look wack because of the big bang arrangement (thats what I read on the R1 thread by someone who seemed to know) I hate the pics of the new R1 but at Indy MotoGP it looked good (once you add some diff pipes)

That pic dont look too bad!

Funny the differences in philosophy between the two outfits. Yam is more about technology; throttle by wire, variable length velocity stacks, one fork for rebound, the other for compression etc. while Suzy seems to care more about grunt, grunt, more compression and more well... grunt!

One thing is for sure, I'll never ride well enough to realize the diff between these two awesome bikes. So I'll take either one!

The question is will either of them catch the 1098 (or is it now 1198) now that Bayliss is out to pasture!?
