$1,000.00 to check my valve clearance!!!

I just rolled over 22,000 miles on my 'Busa, so I called the local Suzuki dealer for a price estimate to check my valve clearance. I was stunned when the guy said "about a grand". Dude went on to say that if it's running OK, he would not check the valve clearance.
I said, "for a thousand dollars, I wouldn't ask you to." Told him I was retired, with plenty of time, so I'd just do it myself.

At their shop rate of $85 an hour, he's estimating over 11 hours to do the job. I've never done it before, but I can't imagine how it could possible take that long just to check them.

Anybody?

You need to find a new stealership. - For that sort of money I'd be asking him if he was providing a private waiting room full of coke and strippers.

That is not even funny. A thousand dollars? Kick him in the nuts, and call the owner of the store. :banghead:

11 hours? Is he doing it under water?

:banghead:

--Wag--

I'd ask for a kiss ... cuz when I'm getting done that hard I definitely want to be kissed before, during and after

If you don't have one - Buy a service manual. It will tell you how to ....

But I do agree that if it is running fine, let it go. Don't fix what ain't broken.:laugh::laugh:

Can someone like Gixerhp please tell us how long and how much it should actually cost?
Whats actually involved labor wise in doing that?

For that price I bet he is doing the whole valve adjustment via the exhaust pipes using golden tools...

I know times are tough and shops are acting like starving flies on the rare rib-roast that comes in the door, but 1000 bucks for a valve check/adjust is almost impossible to believe. With prices like that I doubt that shop will be around much longer. I bet they're trying to screw people on bike purchases bigtime as well....
Those are the kinda shops I love watching go out of business

If there are valves that need adjusting it's an all day job for sure. Then there is a new valve cover gasket that's not cheap. I could see it getting the best of a grand by the time you pay tax etc. at shop rates.

if i remember correctly the book calls for 5.5 hours.. remove fairings lower radiator and oil cooler, remove upper motor supports and lean motor forward, remove valve cover check clearances.... or for us back yard folk aka smart people remove fairings remove valve cover check clearances .... i havnt done it on a busa yet but i know alot of other bikes you can do it without dropping the motor
