OK, one last question before I cut. How much larger diameter hole did you cut versus the slider diameter.

In my particular case, the slider outside diameter is 1.730, so I know a 1 3/4 hole is going to be way to close and tight a tolerance. I believe the next hole saw size up is 1 13/16 (1.812) which would leave approximately a .040 gap around the slider. Is that still too close or should I go up to an 1 7/8 (1.875) hole saw which would leave about .072 around the outside?

I tried looking at some pics, but its really hard to tell from a pic just how much clearance you guys are allowing.

Thanks in advance.

I used a 1 3/4" hole saw. It is a tight fit but looks really good. The down side is, you hole has to be right on.

Yeah I used the smallest size possible for mine, the tight fit looks really nice in my opinion. BigJohn is right, your hole has to be right on. I can send you the link to my install if you want(I have to find it again) which includes how to get the holes perfect. Let me know.

LOL i see youve put some thought into this. Only guy who measures 3 decimal places back good luck let us know how it turns out casue my sliders just came in the mail today

Some people go as high as a 2" hole saw which to me is too big. I would go with the 1-7/8" hole saw if it were me. The nice tight fit is great, but I would prefer a little breathing room and put some trim or something around it to finish it off. Just my $.02.

I would personally go for the tighter fit, much more clean looking. I have to get enough ballz to do this mod myself. Hopefully someday I will.

seeing that we am on this topic, what slider do you recommend? Metal or plastic should I say

FWIW:

The 1-7/8" leaves a 0.0725" gap around the slider. For comparison, 1/16" = 0.0625", so you're only talking about 10/1000's of an inch differenrce.

Measure the gap between any two panels on your bike and you car, and you'll find that even ones that look small are about 1/16". I wouldn't go any smaller than that, because it might interfere with panel installation.

Good Luck

I think Suzuki should provide fairings that are pre-marked for slider drilling, it's not like this bike came out this year.

This procedure stresses out everyone who owns one.

Personally I went the oversize route to ensure I wouldn't need to cut twice. One of the holes is slightly off, but unless you're anal/another 'Busa owner, you probably wouldn't notice/care.

Quit stressing and start drilling!

One more thing, if you make the hole an exact fit, I would imagine it's possible for the slider to crack your fairing if it gets bent or flexed in a fall.

Sorry HIM,

Decimal points are my living. On any given day .001 can be the difference between good...........and scrap.

You need to have some clearence so the slider doesn't rub against the panel. Use the 2" hole saw, which will give you about .135" on each side, and then use some car door edge gaurd/trim to dress it up and take up some of the gap between slider and the faring.

just got mine in today havent drilled yet just collecting infoHey what do u torque the bolts down to?

2 inchs is what the directions recommend, but that just seemed like an awful lot of space!

Agree. Go with the 1-7/8", but still use the trim to top it off. You should still have a little room to prevent them from cracking the fairing in fall.

Do not go too big or you are going to be drilling into your fairing mounting bolt on the left side. I used a 1 3/4 for mine and it almost was interfering.

I have a very tight gap on mine, those of you who are looser

do you not have to take the frame sliders out before removing the fairing? Because that would be nice not to have to do that, but there is no way I am re-cutting those holes.
