Well, I took off my first motorcycle wheel tonight.  Thanks to BulletTrain for the good walkthrough with picts.  I have ventured into the world of really working on my own cycle.

I will be taking it to the dealer to get a new tire mounted and balanced.  Then all I have to do is mount it.

Anyway, here is a pict of my handy work.  I had no one else to share this with so you all get stuck with it.

Here is a pict of my new tire.  I went with OEM since I have this thing for matching tire sets.  Will get new front and rear next time.

Nothing like doing your own wrenching, and you saved a ton of money on labor!

THERE is NOTHING like the feeling of working on your own Bike

We'll have to get those OEM's switched out B4 we take you to Leaky... but nothing like becoming one with your ride. Bikes are so much easier to work on than cars.

make sure you learn how to check "chain alignment" when you go back together..

congrats on the step forward!

Before you take it to the dealer, make sure you pull all of the hardware off the wheel. Leave the rubber spacers but pull the sprocket and the axle spacers. If one of them falls off in transit, you may have a hard time locating them when you go to put the wheel back on.

Welcome to the wrenching world!

I hope to someday be able to do that myself, but as long as I got my check book handy I will pass... rather use a pen than a wrench.... and I'm proud of all my toys...

Way to go! Doing the wheel changes myself saves me $50 a set on tires. In a 2 year period that's easily worth a free pair of tires.

Oh Man, you didn't take the.........crap, dude......it won't go back together as easy as you took it apart. "Given" it's not your primary mode of transportation so you got all the time in the world to repair and "then" put the wheel back on. I wish someone had to told you not to....oh...nevermind...I'm not going to be the one to tell you. You should have consulted a few people before tearing into that like you did...... putting the wheel back in place, hooking the chain, sliding the axle across, catching the brake hanger, getting the nut spun up, setting the rear alignment, and then torqueing the axle nut...that's the easy part.

"It's right there in the picture...OH BOY...do you have some work to do.......not going to be fun either".

I'm surprised someone didn't tell you....

I'm a little disappointed in the O.R.G..."someone" should have told him. "That's going to be $$$$$"..........

Don't worry about all these guys giving you crap bro you did a good job and if you need any help I should be in Houston area most likley this evening or tomorrow afternoon so that I can help ya if you need any thing. But also like MPH 200 said dont depress the brake levers with the tires off that is sound advice.

Thanks for the comments.  Yea, trying to learn how to work on it myself and save some money for more mods.

R2B, thanks for the offer, looks like I won't get the tire mounted till Sat morning now.  Work always gets in the way of fun

bike mechanic here!!

You will find that working on your bike is almost as much fun as riding it. General service wil get easier each time you do it. Heck I take my bike apart just to clean it. Not much trouble you can get into with the guys on the org to help you out if you get stuck. I wouldn't think of letting someone else work on my busa

I guess I never road Leaky when I lived in Austin. Are the stockers that bad. 1431 was no problem, is Leaky that much more difficult?
