$13.60 M/C Inspection...

Are motorcycle inspections a joke, rip-off, or just a roundabout way for "Big Brother" to keep up with us? I rode my 08 Busa to the local dealership to have its annual inspection completed. I decided to see exactly what the inspector was going to check and how long the inspection was going to take. Needless to say, loading my registration in their computer database to upload to NCDMV took longer than the inspection. The inspector did a U-turn in the shops bay area then began a series of (Really Extensive Test ) like: the horn blow, the turn signal checkaroo, and the ignition turn on/off for the mileage display:lol:. I thought to myself, man, I do more than that on my pre-trip inspection, but I'm not complaining, because now I can get my tags and ride worry-free of the infamous expired registration/revoked plate issuances that NCDMV imposes on violators:rulez:.

I've never bothered with an inspection on any of mine. It's my butt in the sling and I do most of my own wrenching. I never felt the need, and haven't yet been ticketed for it.

Knock on wood, ymmv, etc.

Shops here in small-town-America don't even know what they're looking at

I'm with you...I do more routine checking before a ride than I just paid them to do for a damn sticker... :banghead:

yeah virginia requires us to get them inspected yearly, but i never get mine inspected and knock on wood too about the ticket lol i do all the work on mine too:thumbsup:

I didn't get my Busa inspected for the first 4 years of ownership  I just forgot...

I don't know anyone that actually gets theirs inspected.

Not sure what citation you'd get if you're caught without it, but I do "try" to adhere to the laws

I have an illegally mounted tag and no light on the tag, but they pass it every year...I also insist they put the inspection sticker on the back of the tag bracket. No one seems to question that  Here's your $$... :satisfied:

??? What is this inspection you speak of.?. lol

no inspection here in Wyo. if you can build it, you can ride it!

:poke: Montana has no inspection AND a lifetime plate!

I don't have a light either for my plate. Have not been pulled for it. My friend on the other hand gets pulled for the smallest thing.

It's all a bunch of crap to collect revenue for the state. Waste of the owners time and money:whistle: So glad we don't do this here.

WI doesn't even require an inspection. No exhuast, nothin. Harley heaven up here so nuthin is illegal. No helmet laws.

For sched maintenance, I don't let a dealership touch either of my bikes. Have had no need since 08 when I noticed the first thing they did was scratch my brand new rims in a simple tire change (I change my own tires now). Did my own valve clearance adjustment. If I can figure that out, I believe I can get most stuff done with a few tools and info from forums like this.
