After meeting that guy at the busa bash with a 1397(I'm bad with names) in his bike, i've decided to do this myself.
Where's the place to go for a kit and is it a bolt-on deal?
I'd rather not have to split the cases.

Paul you would be better off calling Lee's Performance and have him do the work. You can get the bored/plated block and pistons and do it yourself but its a pretty big job. I work on bikes everyday and I will not touch the top end of a motor.

 Whats all that about Gary?
do you degree cams atleast?
Yes I can degree cams and adjust valves but I will not pull a head. I have fixed many transmissions but just something about pulling a head give me an uneasey feeling that I'll mess something up.

I would stay away from muzzy on this, I believe his bores are off center, which means the crank is pushing the rods at an angle.
I have no personal expeience with them, but have heard god things about Carpenter Racing Engines.

He heard carpenter makes good power, just not as much as he boasts. And for the price, you could nearly have a turbosystem making 80-100 more horsepower.

I don't want a turbo......right now. Betcha never heard that before here.:D

I don't mind doing the motor work, i build all my own V8 motors for my hotrods so how much more difficult could this be. I figure, if i can pull this off then i'll have a better knowledge of my Busa and less fear of a complete teardown afterwards.

Besides, a turbo on top of a 1397 sounds great to me.

What about turbo reliability? I understand all motor to be more reliable. Is this not the case?
build a motor and it blows, you lose everything. buy a turbo kit and it blows. You lose a piston, maybe a rod (many people will give these to you) and at max a $800 turbo.

turbos can operate at less compression and provide more power. So if properly setup and maintained, turbos are MORE reliable than a built motor.

from bob carpenter's site:

200 Horsepower Street Hayabusa Package

We've done it! 200 horsepower from a Hayabusa using stock pistons and valves!
Utilizing special 5 axis CNC head porting and stock Suzuki billet cam ground to our specifications

Complete with Clutch Fix, Air Box Mod and Power Scoops installed

Price complete $2600
Turn-key: Drive-in, drive-out
Price effective 1/1/05

he fails to mention the $500-1000+ pipe you will need and the $300+ fuel module (ie: power commander etc) in order to even get near his claims. I have seen 3 carpenter builds here local. NONE have matched or exceed the claimed figures on local dynos.

so $2600+500+300=$3400. Another $500 to make 260 hp from a ghetto turbo BUT yes you would need to get dirty.
