16t front sprocket

I just went up to a 43t in the back rather than going down to a 16t in front and creating more chain wrap, too many ppl think it leads to excessive wear. Stock being 17/40. Its easier to swap the rear sprocket, and again, less to worry about with the chain wrap issue.

I just recently changed to the 16t front sprocket. Very noticeable difference.

1st gear is roll-on-wheelie all the time now. 2nd gear power wheelies are easy to do now as well.

This is a nice cheap mod for people who need more low-end acceleration. I purchased my 16t from the board vender www.calsportbike.com

Be sure to follow the correct torque specification when re-installing the counter-shaft nut.

I just installed a 16 tooth last month & felt a big difference which lasted about 3 weeks & then added a 42 tooth.which felt even better......for now.

i run a 16/42 from charles at street and track
love the get up and go go

16/43 gearing.
chain is fine as a frog hair split in the middle........
zxrider is right she really wants to reach for the stars in first gear.

I hope this is the case with me too! I just orderd a 16 / 42 from Charles, along with a whole bunch of other stuff. Figured it would make a lot of difference in the mountains and twisties.

I don't think the ramp angle gets extreme enough to have excessive chain wear until 15 or less teeth.

I ran 17/43 for a few years, then went to 16/43 and it was a noticeable difference. I like it, and it's about like going from 17/40 to 17/43.

So really it is all personal choice of what to do. Either 16/40 or 17/43? Or is there a difference in the two? And is there a brand to stay away from? This is my next mod to do in the next 2-3 weeks.

Not a noticible difference. As a general rule every tooth up front is equal to 3 in the rear.

The main factor most take into account is the wheelbase. It'll be extended with the 16T up front (drag racing) and shortened with the 43T in the rear (wheelies and twisties). Accleration itself is nearly identical.

When I was in the shop the mechanic told me not to do the 16t front because it rubs too much on top due to the smaller sprocket, he recommends going with bigger in back but not shorter in front. Anyway have the 16t on a bike thats not lowered, did you see any excessive wear on the rubber between the top of the chain and the front of the swingarm?

(StreetnTrack @ Feb. 10 2007,21:37) there is nothing wrong with putting a 16 tooth on a busa.  probably more 16 tooths then 17 tooths on busas.
Ha, from what I can tell you are certainly right! Thanks, I am gonna order the rear 42t and chain soon!

(thepushercg @ Jan. 22 2007,17:17) fine as a frog hair
I haven't heard that one in a while

(StreetnTrack @ Feb. 10 2007,23:16) kewl, just shoot me a pm, email, or call and let me know how many links and what color you want.
Hey street, on your site I see the vortex black sprocket, but not the new one that is hardcoated. Shiny...mmm, shiny. You have that one? I think I just need a stock length chain, comes in at 112 for stock, the chains are sold at 120 I believe?

Thanks
Joe
