181 Miles - Bike Down

The bike is down. At 181 miles the bike displayed "F1" on the instrument panel. From that point I pulled over and turned the bike off. Tried to turn it back on - the instrument panel indicated that the bike was in 4th gear. I couldn't get the bike into neutral. After turning the electronics on and rocking the bike a bit (just a few pounds of pressure forward and a few back) I was able to get the bike into neutral. After service arrived we were able to restart the bike with a jump. However, it ran for about 3 minutes then stopped again. This is a sad day - just purchased on July 24th. The dealer is is closed on Monday :-(. I was ready to show the bike off.

Well I am glad that it wasn't what I thought when I read the subject. At least it is a mechanical/electronic thing. 181 miles, your still under warranty.

If the bike started with a jump, maybe it's just a bad battery. I hope you get back on the road soon!!:beerchug:

Thats what I was thinking. It may not have had a full charge when they put it in. After the dealer installs a new battery, take it home and put a full charge on it and you should be fine.

The heading of thread had a few us thinking of a worse condition, The beauty theres no out of pockets and Its better that something breaks now than later. Its nice when the bugs come out under warrenty. Hope its something minor. Then you'll have alot time to show off the bike.

How ironic.

This past Friday (July 23rd), I picked up my new 2009 Black Busa at 6:00 pm. As I was approaching 171 miles at about 11 PM that night, I had a experiance similiar to yours - the key being the F1 light. Mine stayed running after jumpstarting it, and I got it back home. Prior to the jump, the engine would turn over slighly, but not enough to start it.

Saturday morning I rode it back to the dealer. It started on its own fine, and the ride over was uneventful. After an hour or so of troubleshooting they determined it was the battery. The computer was showing a nice clean 00 code, and they could find nothing else wrong - the battery was showing a 50% charge after a 25 mile ride.

It just happened that the Suzuki rep was in house, and he made a few calls. His finding was that the fuel injection system is sensitive to a low battery situation, and a faulty battery will cause the F1 (which as your owner manual indicates if Fuel System) light to come on because of this. I'm happy to say after the replacement batter I'm now up over 400 miles without another incident.

This does not sound good. Now you have me dreading the next few miles. Have about 250 miles on the bike now, so far without incident (other dropping in garage with 101 miles on the clock).

What do we new owners need to know about battery maintenance? I ride about 20 miles round trip each day... do I need to stick the battery on a maintainer, considering my commute is so short?

Thanks,

Mike

Update - It happened again.

So much for the battery fixing it . . . I rode about 60 miles tonight, stopping by a convience store for some cash for the sitter before riding the last couple miles to the house. I had locked then ignition, so I knew I hadn't left the key on. I was inside for 5 or 6 minutes, max. When I can back out, the bike wouldn't start. Gauges and stuff would come on, but there wasn't enough juice to crank the engine. Actually, after pressing the start button, my clock reset to midnight.

Luckily, there was a friendly individual who gladly hooked up the cables, and my busa fired right up. I drove the rest of the way home, about a five minute drive. When I got home, I pulled it in the garage, and shut it off. Of course it fired right back up.

At no time during this process did the F1 light come on.

I'm at 422 miles as of now.

I guess we'll see what the dealer says tomorrow morning.

The problem with this one is not the battery - at least the "diagnosed" problem (hopefully the dealership has it right). The issue is a regulator module of some kind. Suzuki claims that the thing is "plug and play, a 30 minute repair time." I hope that this is the right call. Reliability will be an issue in the back of my mind for a while. Supossedly Friday is the day.:cheerleader: Just for fun, Suzuki is giving me a $100 gift certificate. I would have thought $250 would be more like it, but one hundred beats a sharp stick in the eye.

Glad to hear that your dealer is taking care of you and, when all is right, you will enjoy the ride of your life. :beerchug:
Just respect her and ride her safe.

After the second incident, my dealer has determined it is the regulator too. I hope to have it back tomorrow . . . .I guess we'll see.

Not that I'm an expert, but sounds like my first official ride of my busa. I was taking her home for the first time. Ended up being the battery wasn't connected very well. I would start with electronics because it started with a jump. I had the same issue with couldn't crank and the whole nine. And all because of not having a solid connection on the posts.
