190 on my speedo??????????/

I have a 00blue/silver with 700 miles on it.
I was out last week on a long stretch of hiway with no traffic at 3am.
My bike would only pull 190 in fifth and when i switched to 6th,it didnt go any faster.I held it there for about at least a 1/4 mile in 6th trying to go faster.
I know the speedo is on the liberal side, but shouldn,t it say 200.
The conditions wer as followed:
70 deg about 70%hum

About a 10 mph tail cross wind

I weight about 210lbs and was tucked as far as i can possibly tuck, looking thru the
windshield instead looking over it.

Anyone have any ideas or comment about that speed?

My bike is completely stock and i didnt have the hump on it.
I will try it again when the weather gets nice again with different tuck technics. Thanks for all the input.

I have rode my oo red/silver to 207 on I-88 sevral times. Also on the back roads west of aurora by where I live.On 5-8-00 my friend rode his 12 with me to the highland park resturant.I parked my red/silver busa in front of another red/silver busa and never did see the owner. We stayed about an hour then roded towards the lake.

my 00 blue did 202 stock--now with header and pc and with the mirrors out 208 --if you did what you said my only suggestion is to flintstone it!!---you know put the feet on the pavement and run!!! (barefoot of course)

Chicago, where did this take place? My copper 99 was a little faster. On Sunday make your way to Highland house RT.41/rt.22 in highland park. Before 11 am,cool bike hang out.

I88 was the road i was on.We have to hook up one day and go riding.

Let the engine finish breaking in and you will see more hp. 700 miles is not enough! Its a big, powerful engine that needs some abuse to get max HP. My 99 had 7200 miles on it and was still getting stronger. Best i had was 212 and it was still pulling, but when it had 1000 miles it barely pulled 200 mph (numbers are indicated)

At those speeds any flaw in engine setup, no matter how small, will result in lower MPH.

How's your throttle sync and TPS calibration. You know they are NOT setup at the factory. Incorrect tire pressures will slow you down too.

chicago,my '99 was very sensitive to riding position(tuck),I could really feel the difference, when I got out of the wind(drag area).(Iam 190,5'11" also and to do this and still be able to see was(not thru the windscreen) was never achieved by me,and I tried many(6+-) times.I think the british mag that talked about this last year even mentioned adjusting shoulder position, and moving foreward and backward to get to the correct position.I was never able to get the bike over 190+-,because of this,I think, but I really could feel the difference in the drag when I moved around in the saddle,as above.FYI/.02.

I thought that in order to increase top speed by just a few miles per hour it took a HUGE jump in HP. Going from 200 to 212 (indicated) would seem to me more than the difference in a well broken in motor. Could be other variations.

I think Hapo is right it is most likely aerodynamics.

Did you have the rear seat on or the cowl? My 99 has seen 210 on speedo with the cowl on and with more room I think it would have seen more. Had about 800+ miles on it.

One of the moto mags I read recently stated that a 1/10 of 1 percent decrease in drag will result in approximately an addditional three miles an hour at speeds over 180mph. Their point was that it took an extra five horsepower to accomplish the same thing, so the riders position must be very important at top speeds since drag is increased A LOT depending on how well tucked in you stay. I know that slowing from those speeds quickly hardly even requires the brakes if you sit up about halfway on your seat at the end of your run, since all that wind resistance and air that you're pushing wants to slow you down anyways.

Chicago,

If I remember right 5th gear is good for about 183 with stock gearing. The speedo on the Busa is optimistic. I have seen 210+ on occasion.

I think the high humidity may have hurt you. Not only does it cost you HP, but the heavier air produces more drag as well.

Are the speeds you are all talking about USA miles/hour or UK Miles/hour, corrected uncorrected, restricted, limited or what? was the neddle wavering, steady, floating upwards?
How the F*** can you acurately read the speedo at 190mph?
Looking down for 1 second you travel 85meters....and you look down to see how fast you are going, focus & read, what, 2 secs say, you just travelled 160meters+. Look back up, focus and take it all in, what another 1.5 secs?, thats 3.5 secs where you are 'blind'.
3.5 * 84 = 294meters....extra pressure on your eyes, difficult to focus, unfamiliar speeds = no conditioning, I reckon closer to 300+ meters where you haven't got a clue whats happening, and you reckon......
I wish you all luck my friends
You'll be telling me next that you don't wear helmets and do all this in T-shirts and shorts, with the girl on the back, whilst keeping an eye on your radar detector and talking on your cell phone

STAY SAFE

(Not so) NumbNuts (anymore it appears)

Numbnuts: The speeds i was referring to were INDICATED MPH NUMBERS. Big difference in the USA long straight roads, little traffic in many places, good weather. In the UK, where i lived for 25 years, way too much traffic, shitty weather and when you do get on the M1 or M25 etc. there were cops and cameras everywhere. No cameras in the USA yet as far as i know. Pack your stuff up and move out here. The UK sucks! Expensive bikes, gas, tyres, but worst of all the weather. Im in FL and we have had about 1 inch of rain in 5 months, in riding every Sunday for the last 18 months i have NEVER been rained out and only once did it fall to 40f which was too cold to ride. In the UK it rains an inch about every 2 hours.
