I've always done my own maintenance but never any "real" work on a gun until now. I picked up an old Norinco that the slide wouldn't cycle on for cheap as a project. After a thorough cleaning and removing what appeared to be a large order of fries from the slide and spring, the gun would cycle but the hammer would drop to the half-cocked position after every round. I fixed that, then another issue would show up and so on so in the end up replacing the following and now have a much deeper and greater appreciation for the 1911.

Ed Brown barrel bushing,
Ed Brown recoil spring plug
Ed Brown frame rebuild kit
Wilson combat spring kit
Wilson Combat thumb safety
Wilson Combat slide stop
Wilson Combat a2 sear
Wilson Combat skeletonized hammer
Wilson Combat Factory Plus Disconnector
Wilson Combat Beavertail Grip Safety
Wilson Combat Ultralight Match Trigger

I'll hopefully get a trip to the range this weekend.

Thanks for the link. checked the barrel when I first got it and it appeared to be in good shape bit i'm not a gunsmith. A threaded barrel is on the list so maybe I should just move that up.

^^^ I agree about the pictures!!! I have alsways wanted to buiuld a 1911 but time and $ are against me for that build.
Just have to stick with what I got and am doing a mild build of a Betetta M-9 (will post pics when done)

I agree pictures will be nice! I don't know squat about 1911's...never owned one. But a project like this would be fun.

I can post up a pic of the final product but didn't take pics along the way, sorry.

I took my time with this and If what I was doing wasn't clearly understandable , Brownells has great videos online.

Oooooh... I have had one of those on my shopping list for some time now.. And a M-1 Garand... And an AR-15... And a Mossberg pump... A nice breech loader would fit and obviously the Barrett .50 would be the dream weapon.
