Call me crazy. Yeah, first sport bike. I’ve been riding for over 20 years. I currently ride a Yamaha Warrior. It has ran a 12.92 @ 104. But I want to go faster.

So, I just picked an ‘08 with a 1441 engine, air shifter, and is setup for nitrous. I won’t be hitting that nitrous just yet though. First off, no bottle. And, this bike needs a new chain and sprockets. Change both sprockets, right? But to get that rear wheel off the ground, I need to install some spools, except there isn’t a place for them. I’ll include a pic of the swingarm.

Also, it has the adjustable suspension and one of the bolts is broke off in the turnbuckle. I have the same thing on my Warrior. I don’t think that type is strong enough for the drag strip. I’ll be getting some lowering dog bones.

Every piece of plastic has cracks and really just look horrible. The previous owner tried to repair them with not much success. It also needs new fork seals. I changed out those on my Warrior, that also has inverted forks. The front discs are covered with oil. Should I get new discs, or can those be cleaned sufficiently with brake cleaner?

I’ve been reading several threads already and have found a place to get some new plastics, the other parts that I need. But I’m always open to suggestions. I’m really glad to be here and plan on keeping this Busa for a long time. It will mainly be a track bike but I’ll still keep it street legal. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the org, as far as lifting the bike u can order a stand off Amazon that has what I call "paddles" that lift from under the swingarm when u don't have spools. Mine is a venom brand and for the price is well built and lifted many bikes in my shop. As far as the front rotors go if they are good aside from the fork oil on them then clean them with some breaks cleaner and should be good to go but of course gonna need to replace the pads.

Welcome,

That bike looks pretty purpose built for the drag strip...as for any damage, it isn't evident from the picture.

I echo @Dopey I have the same stands and I have a paddle holder along with the spool brackets on mine....the paddles hold my bike with zero issues and will do the same for you.

As you can see in the pic of bike, it’s on the front stand. I bought a set. After looking at the stand with the paddles, I can build those to retrofit my existing stand, since I’m a welder by trade!

I know everybody says they’ve had no problem with paddles but I did. I lifted the bike and it slid backwards down the swingarm until rear tire touched ground and it tried to fall over. Had it slid while I was working in it I’d never have caught it.
If you plan to build your own have the paddles rest against the swingarm brace so it can’t slide. Make sure paddles are far enough forward that axle can still get out.

Maybe if I epoxy some pieces of rubber on the paddles? Or do the manufactured ones come with something similar? Thanks for heads up!

I've been using the paddles on several bikes for many years and have yet to have any issues....I put a piece of 2x4 under the side stand to level the bike somewhat and place the paddles so the back part is just touching the spools...I also have the spool attachments and I use those to remove the back tire as they lift the back of the bike higher.

That being said, prevention is always a good thing...you could glue some anti-slip material to the pads without too much trouble.

Spools certainly make it much easier, but the paddles work just fine. Use the same Venmo stands mentioned earlier on my Concours without issue for storage or maintenance.
