One plastic dot (a hemisphere, actually) on 55 mph, and the other on 3,000 rpm.
When you're in 6th gear, the needles line up with the dots. When they don't line up, you'd be amazed how quickly your brain processes rpms and mphs relative to the dots to give you a pretty good idea of what gear you're in at the time.

need the same thing for training truck drivers.. dang newbs get lost in the gear box and they dang gotta stop to find a good gear..
