They don't mention it in the story, but this "spill" has been going on for two days before they realized it...YUCK!!! Sorry guys, this is news here in the Austin area.

The Lower Colorado River Authority is urging some Elgin residents to boil their water as crews work to clean up an estimated 200,000 gallons of sewage that has flowed into Little Sandy Creek.

According to the LCRA, crews discovered an overflow in a manhole at the Elgin Wastewater System Thursday afternoon. The overflow was caused by a pipeline blockage in a manhole north of the wastewater treatment plant, a spokesperson said. The spill has entered Little Sandy Creek and is crossing under the bridge at FM 1704.

While crews work to clear the pipeline blockage, LCRA has notified the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality of the spill.

A spokesperson for the LCRA said the agency is not aware of any drinking water wells in the vicinity, but private well owners downstream of the plant are asked to boil their drinking water for the next three days as a precautionary measure. Residents should avoid swimming in the affected area of Little Sandy Creek.
