2000 Hayabusa

Can someone tell me about the 2000 Hayabusas? Is there anything I need to know about that year model? Are they ok? Did they have problems in certain areas? Just curious because I found a used one with 5900 miles and it's real clean. They are asking a little too much in my opinion. They want $7499 plus taxes. I'll probably try for $6800 OTD.

YOU CAN GET A 2001 OR 2002 FOR THAT PRICE .... UNLESS U JUST WANT THE UNRESTRICTED MODEL, BUT THEN FOR $20 BUCKS WITH A TRE WILL TAKE CARE OF THAT.

go for the 6800 OTD, but work em way down from there. Still too much, IMHO. Make sure that the bike has not been dropped and re-touched up. Also make sure that the motor is the original one.

Also see if you can take a look at the subframe...ask if a lot of two-up was done on it. Subframe was aluminum for 99 and that year, so the welds have a tendency to get cracked. You don't want that happening. If the subframe is ok, that's cool. If not, you can use that to get them to lower their price and you can always buy a newer subframe.

Another thing to look out for are the fuel lines. They have a tendency to get kinked. If you pick it up, I suggest changing to steel-braided ones quickly. You can also check the fuel pump. Sometimes bits an pieces of the metal get through the filter.

Then you have your starter issues. No real biggie, as long as you take care of it right away. Just replace with an 01 and newer model up. Ya might also need to check your oil pump....again an easy fix. Just replace it...

All these things....if ya replace them, ya got yerself a solid bike that should last ya awhile. Hope this helps.

Damn! That's alot of stuff to go wrong. Are these common problems? Can you see if the welds are cracked without taking the rear bodywork off? I don't think it's been dropped and fixed. It's too clean and most rebuilds don't have paint that nice. They said the owner was in his late 40's so he probably didn't rag it out. One thing I don't like are the 180 Dunlop 208 take-offs that are on the bike. They said the owner was a Dunlop rep. and picked them up for free and that's why they are on it. They are used but still have all the tread left. Oh yeah, the bike is completely stock and sounded very healthy.

good, good. Yeah, the 99's and 00s have some probs, but ya hafta remember: they were the prototype bikes. First-year models are always gonna have kinks in 'em. Overall, they are rock-solid bikes! My 99 is 5 years old and is still hammering the pavement.

These are small things you need to worry about. If you get these fixed, you'll have a rather solid bike.

Does your bike idle funny when you start it in the mornings? The guy started that one and it had a lumpy idle. I think he didn't have the idle lever set right. Once it warmed up for a few seconds everything was cool. I'll check the recall thingy about the cam chain tensioner and try to contact the guy that had it. It still has the whole rear fender with the giant blinkers!

sorry to get back to ya late. Yeah, you should definitely check the cam chain issues. You can't see the subframe if you don't take the rear covers off, so I don't know if you'll be able to get him to do that. What you could do is press down on the back and make sure it feels solid enough. Make sure there's no play on it.

As for the lumpy idle, sounds like it might be some plug issues, intake / air filter issues or it could just be the idle throttle speed. Make sure it's around 1100 to 1200 RPMs when idling.

Hope I'm helping, dood.

My 2000 is just fine, got it with 600 miles on her, now I am at 17K. I called american suzuki and gave them the vin #'s - they confirmed the cam tensioner recall had been done. No other work done and everything is workin fine including the starter. My Busa rumbles alot when idling morning or anytime I know it's past time to adjust the tappets and sync the throttle body's. ( tune up time ) thats all... But I would buy a rear 190 like original.

wanna check the sub frame ? take off the pilots seat . 2 allen bolts . The crack where sub-frame meets frame.
Cam chain....you want the Gen 3 , has an oil line into it .Right side of bike , just below frame . Pull plastic side panel gently out to view tensioner .

They can idle shiddy . Its not a choke....its just a fast idle or fast idle cam , if you prefer .

Check the top of the lower triple tree for stickers indicating recalls .

hav a good 1....RSD.
