From asphaltandrubber (2013 Ducati 1199 Panigale R – 201hp with Race Exhaust):

We may have spoiled Christmas last month, as our predictions for the 2013 Ducati 1199 Panigale R appear to be spot on as we get news from Ducati’s 2013 model year press launch at EICMA.

As expected, the highlights to the 2013 Ducati 1199 Panigale R are the inclusions of titanium con-rods, a lightened flywheel, DLC-coated rocker-arms, a four-point adjustable swingarm pivot-point, a 500 rpm rev boost, and a bit more power (courtesy of a full-system race exhaust and ECU).

While the “R†spec Panigale officially makes the same power as the other models, the race exhaust included with the purchase of the machine is good for a few more ponies up top, giving the Ducati 1199 Panigale R a 201hp top figure, a modest 6% gain up top, but also a 15% increase in the midrange.

Like all Panigales, the Ducati 1199 Panigale R has ABS, ride-by-wire throttle control, traction control, engine braking control, and features all the amenities on the “S†spec model, like the DDA+ data logging system.

At 416 lbs wet, the 2013 Ducati 1199 Panigale R is the lightest superbike in Bologna’s fleet, which includes the 2013 Ducati Superbike 848 EVO Corse SE, which is 430 lbs.
Despite its class-leading maximum power and minimal weight, we imagine there are still going to be some Ducatisti who were expecting more from Ducati’s flagship homologation special.

The consolation to that sentiment is the pricing on the Ducati 1199 Panigale R, which is set at a “reasonable†$29,995 in the US market.

It didn't help the one I ran nose-to-nose with on my 07 1K on the front straight at NOLA 2 weekends ago (and yes I need to post the video)

That would be a cool video to see. But, are you sure it was it the Panigale R, because it was just unveiled yesterday (November 12, 2012) in Milan.

No, it wasn't an R just a regular one...still, I could buy 3 of my bikes for it...

Yeah thats an enormous price tag for a marginal difference in performance

No kidding... And just throw and full exhaust and professional tune and a few teeth up in the rear sprocket and you have the same performance...

O'Really.... You can buy a new BMW H4 and load it up with goodies and spank that thing while having some change left.

It's damn sexy and I wouldn't throw it out of bed...that's for sure!

I'll run it with my HP4 competition when it comes in next month, :beerchug:

The H4 is a great bike, and this year, BMW proved that it could run at the front in WSBK. The premium package H4 runs $25K (standard is $20K), so the Panigale R is $5K more.

The panigale is on its 6 recall now, that is just plain ignorant for the amount of money you spend for a top of the line bike.

I am a Ducati fan and the 1198 is in my opinion the most beautiful production bike ever made. But I don't trust it. It's never started a race, much less won one. It's crazy for a company like Ducati to not race their flagship bike - only good explaination for that is there's something wrong with it. All the mags rave over the "Iphone like dash" but I have never heard anyone say this is the bike to have at the track. I've even heard several say that the electronic Ohlins don't have enough adjustment. Just seems strange that after all the hype I've never heard a rider say the Ducati is their weapon of choice. Why have a screamer twin? If you want a screamer bike go with a real one and get a Gixxer or a BMW. Twins are supposed to have torque, torque which combined with a natural big bang means getting out of corners faster than everyone else. But all the 1198's twin will do is get you down the straight faster than most, except the BMW. I'm not feeling it.

All liter bikes are mind bending fast, that's a given. Sort of like there aren't any slow fighter jets, but if my butts on the line I'll take a Raptor. Again I love Ducati but I smell a hype job with this one.

My 5 year old gixxer held it's own with this one...I expected him to walk off on me...it was funny when I got to the last turn, and realized "oh crap, that's the Panigale, I GOTTA see what this bike will do"

Let's not forget that the skill set between the two may have been quite different also...
From what I saw it was the gsx-R getting on the brakes a bit later going into the turn.

That doesn't change the fact the he was right with him/slowly walking him down while full throttle on the straight

Oh, the Duc had the advantage coming into the straight (I was behind him, started to go to the outside and had to change to the inside), and I certainly outbraked him at the end...what I was pointing out was when we were at WOT, my gixxer was holding it's own w/him when I would have thought it would have been a no-contest.

It's crazy, trying to successfully tap that kind of power out of a 1200 twin. Almost imposssible. That in itself is a major technical achievement, but still a big disadvantage over 4 cylinders. One combustion per revolution, compared to two. It will be interesting to see if Audi changes Duc's direction, I believe in MotoGP they have already looked at removing the head of technical.

Audi to drop Filippo Preziosi from Ducati's MotoGP project?
