Incredible! Way waaay different than any I’ve seen before. I’ve always enjoyed watching the opening ceremonies where every participating country proudly marches into the arena carrying their flag for the walk around the track. Some have only one athlete and some send hundreds. We sent 594 this year. India though with a 1.5 billion population sent just 115. Hungary with just under ten million people sent 180. What was so different was the ceremony began outside on the river Seine in the rain! They must have rented every boat in Paris, loooog river boats, boats of every type. Incredible designs on some too. Athletes from all the countries were on the boats, some shared some not. I was kinda surprised that Ukraine managed to send over 100 athletes. The prancing horse with rider atop a submarine? was really cool. Interesting how so many countries have red white and blue flags. One had red and white stripes with a blue corner with one big white star on it. Several flags had very cool designs.

Iran, Iraq and even N Korea showed up as did Ukraine but not Russia. They were banned. I have mixed feelings about that. I feel for the legitimate athletes who simply want to compete on the world stage regardless of what their country’s politics are.

No crap, Russia has tremendous athletes. It's a shame politics seem to trump everything today.

I watched it as well quite a spectacle.

I know you're gonna hate this, but regarding the medal tally, NZ is 4th and Australia is 10th in the medals' per capita ratings.
The per capita tally is a far more accurate measurement of "punching above your weight" so . . . I guess NZ trumps Australia . . . again
