41 MPG

A recent study conducted by Harvard University found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year. Another study by the American Medical Association found that Americans drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year. This means, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon. Kind of makes you proud to be an American.

Errrr....uhhhh....ummmmm........I gave up drinkin' ten years ago, and I bicycle, at least, twenty miles a day for exercise / health......I think I'm WAY ahead of the average.....

Same here. My busa average fuel mileage is right at 41 in the city with 1 tooth up in the front. I get close to 48 out on the freeway! Got me with the title for sure!

6th gear 2800 rpms 70 mph. Sometimes I get on her a bit and the average drops but sane riding and she does real good now. I am hoping to get the higher numbers on the way to and coming back from Sturgis. May not though because I'll have the saddlebags and a pack on with me. Tenting on the way and while there. Gonna see how cheap I can do the trip. Will be tracking all exspenses for a little story of the trip. I have traveled long distances many times and never really tried to do them on a tight budget. I want to see how I do so maybe Daytona next year will be the destination.

AND I am WAAAAAAAY over the 22gallon limit a year ahahahahahahha did I mention I drink alot???

Gotcha. I've been thinkin about goin to a 42 tooth rear to try to help out my average. I'm gettin about 36-38. I have stock gearing and usually run about 85 on my way to work and back everyday. 85 puts me turnin 4500rpm I'm at 3500 at 65, which is still higher than what you're doin at 70, so I really think I need to change some gears!

Changing the rear is easier for sure. Not sure which would be cheaper. Changing the rear, can you keep the stock chain? If I remember correctly I changed the front as I had room for it in the axle position hash marks. When I bought it I also bought the stocker as I was trying to tame down a used bike as well as improve my mileage. I went from -1 in front to plus one in front and was very happy with the change. Tamed it well and mileage has improved greatly from the way it was before. I also zeroed the PC III to get as close to stock settings as I could. I am running Two Brothers Bolt on CF Ovals and a K&N Air Filter. I still have all the throttle response I need and getting decent mileage. Win Win. My 04 was stock and was always close to 50 MPG but my ride is an exercise in self control.
