whadda freaking bear...figured i could just remove the black plastic under-cowling...reach up in there and unplug twist and replace...unt-uh...no way..low beams on top...waaay up in there..unplugged...removed rubber boot and..no way...some sorta wire clip system i couldn't even see without standing on my head with a mirror and a flashlight...so i went in from the top...removed the windscreen and instrumentation panel...and viola...thar she blows...the wire retention clip...and it looks like it's made for convienience but...unt-uh...she no budge..2 little cad plated pos screws holding the wire clip that holds the bulb in place...looks like i might be dropping the whole damn nose fairing to replace a freakin low beam bulb..whaddah PITA!

i'm not happy...sumpt'in rells me i ain't gett'in no smarter in my old age either.:banghead:

I guess ya can't help stupid...L8R, Bill.

The wire retention does not have to be removed all the way! Just loosen the screw on the the right side of it, barely, do not remove that little bugger, and then the wire retention will rotate out of the way.

All I do is push down and rotate the spring clip. I didn't have to loosen the screw.

thanks 2tone and GSXcite...i'll try that first and i'm sure it'll work out..just gotta finish up my cup of hot tea and get my lower back mov'in again...spent a lot of time leaned over Oren repeating "awe-shid" yesterday afternoon.

man...next bike?..the lights are gonna be side-by-side...not one over the other dead fugg'in center up behind a ton of shid...think it takes about 10 seconds to replace a bulb in a R1. :banghead:

just outta curiosity...is yours a gen1 or a gen2?...cause mines a gen1 and i don't see that spring clip "rotating" at all.

guess we don't have a whole lotta folk burning out gen1 low beams either cause there ain't a whole lotta info on R&R'ing the bulbs...anywhere...not even the manual i downloaded again yesterday...and i'd hate to think we need a sticky on "how-to change a lightbulb"

Thanks again for sharing the help/info/experience folks...L8R, Bill.

wooooHOOO!...finally got my new silverstar ultra lowbeam bulb in....clip worked just like GSXcite said...apparently?..i was trying to rotate it the wrong way...saw a notch in the tiny sheetmetal bracket and figured that way the "release notch"...wrongo...just hadta push real hard and go the other way...matter fact?...the 51 year old flesh on my fingertips was no match for the clip...hadta worm a pair of small needlenose in there to get'er done..then..it was easy...but one things for sure...you might be able to swap out the high beam bulb going through the underside of the nose but forget trying to R&R the low beam (which is on top)...best off removing the windscreen and instrumentation cluster and access through the top.

I'm still feel'in stupid though...amazing...i can set-up my own suspension...check & adjust my own valves....wire up and intergrate my directionals w/ a clear alternatives tail-light...install braided lines and bleed brakes...install full exhaust and map out a PC3 but...

I have trouble changing a freak'in light bulb?

sum x's i just gotta laugh at myself..but right now i need to bolt Oren back together.

Thanks for the help folks! :beerchug:

So I guess this answers the age old question, How many Busa riders does it take to change out a lightbulb ( 3 )

I guess this it a little late, but +1. Its a spring clip that catches under a hook in the housing. No need to mess with its retainer. There's a little bit of a trick to how you push, squeeze, and twist, but once you get it the first time you'll see how simple it really is.

think how much easier it would've been to send it to me...

I tried...

cool..where's mine?...how much?..whaddui send what where?...and...

is this mod gen specific or can it be done to either/or both the gen1 or gen2?

if i recall the gen2 comes with hid as stock..correct or am i mistaken?

Thanks & L8R, Bill."

cool...what's the turn-around/eta?

i just recently priced a new headlight housing for Oren cause her clear plastic lens got a bad scratch in it from my middle daughter accidently knocking over one of my drummers cymbols in the garage..and evidently?...ya can't just buy the lens from the dealer...ya gotta buy the whole headlight housing assy...price?..$300...so oren lives with the real bad scratch...not big...just a zig-zag one-liner but deep..tell me how much and maybe i can find a headlight housing on-the-cheap from someone parting out a gen1 busa and send that to you...what kind of cost are we talking here?...i have no clue...PM it to me if that makes ya feel more comfy but i would love to line this up for myself and Oren...i'm go'in on 52...i "need" all the visual night-time advantages i can get.

Thanks again Ogre & jlmk...L8R, Bill."

"cause my oem low beam bulb finally burned out after 7 long years?...and cause i think Ogre believes/knows i'm too poor to even bother shooting me a pm'ed price (for my GenI) on his HID/Retrofit deally?... ...

i finally hadta break down...hadta take another route...and drop the big bucks...so folks?...i present to you the H7 55W...

hey Jinks.....the first thing I thought of when I read your thread on easy way to change the bulbs was.....What?, This guy does the right up on suspension setting, but cant change a bulb?:beerchug:

 right?...truth of the matter is it's just a rare occassion that i ever had bulbs burn out in other bikes i've owned or worked on but i can honestly say that my busa was one of the most difficult to "get to"...and..."see" what the he11 kinda rig they had go'in on in there...probably because the busa is also one of the most "Finished" bikes i've owned/worked on when it comes to fairing and instrumentation...most others are like "Right There"...easy to get to...easy to see and work on...well within reach & sight...and it is a simple set-up just like most others once ya see and get a mental grip on whats go'in on in there..like busawhipped mentioned..

"There's a little bit of a trick to how you push, squeeze, and twist, but once you get it the first time you'll see how simple it really is."

and i've run into lotsa "Gotcha's" on many bikes where it's just sump'tin ya gotta do once before ya realize how easy it truely is...i can recall an issue of "Motorcyclist Magazine" where they did the year long test deal with a CV carbed R6 and they even had a free Ivans Jet Kit for it but once they saw what was involved?...never installed it...mentioning that the vacuum lines on their R6 looked like the intestinal track of a moose and got scared off of tackling the job especially when it came to pressing out air jets...and i read that article months after installing and tuning 3 of'em myself..then laughed my azz off feel'in all proud of myself...then?..

Let my subscription to motorcyclist magazine expire...for good.

Mine is a gen 1, 05. From the top is the best way that I found to change it. I did it in the parking lot in Eureka Springs. Took 5 min.

Jinks, we all have talents in different areas. Thats what makes this site so cool. I did your suspension set up years ago, and my busa felt like a different bike! Since then, I have used your setup on many members bikes with the same results. Seems like I do two or three at every meet, and I always give you the credit you deserve!
