$600 trailer build

I decided to put together a small, inexpensive trailer for hauling a single bike. Something for when a large enclosed trailer is too much.

I started with a 4x8 Haul Master trailer kit from Harbor freight. After assembly, I welded on 3/16" steel flats down the length of the trailer to give the deck some rigidity.

I painted the steel to help prevent corrosion. And did the wiring next. All wiring is soldiered, shrink wrapped, and loomed.

Next, I added a Harbor Freight swing-back jack.

After this, I riveted on a diamond-plate aluminum deck. I added eye bolts on all 4 corners. I bolted down a nice venom chock. And added a locking tongue box.

All in all, not a bad little hauler for the money spent. Here's a breakdown on costs:

Trailer (HF): $300 (on sale, 20% off)
Steel and aluminum for decking: $100
Swing stand (HF): $25
Tongue box (HF): $95 (on sale, 20% off)
Venom chock (Amazon): $74 (shipped)
Eye bolts and wire loom: $10

TOTAL = $604

Thanks guys! I'm glad you like it.
I just pulled it across Michigan and back this weekend and it did great.

Were'd you find that diamond plate for so cheap?
I got it from work. I sell aftermarket car parts for a large performance parts warehouse, and we stock 4x8 sheets of it here. Same with the 3/16" steel. So, I got a pretty good price on them.

Just an update; the trailer is still going strong! She sat in flood waters a year ago and I had to replace the axle bearing and seals after that. Amazon sells the metric bearing kits for these trailers (HF doesn't sell them, nor did any local shops). I also eventually upgraded to LED lighting. But I've used it twice already this spring. It's been a great little trailer.

I also forgot to share the ramp way back when. I bought a regular single, folding ramp and welded on supports for footing. It works perfectly. I plan to weld on a storage slot for it under the trailer later this year.

Ohh, and I welded up an apparatus for hauling kayaks last summer. This thing pins onto the motorcycle trailer and allows me to haul 6 boats. It attaches over the chock, so it's easy to go from cycle hauling to boat hauling. WIN!
