A first Bike?

Can someone define first bike?

When someone says they are getting a busa as a first bike are people assuming that person has never been on a bike before and knows nothing about how to ride one?

I think they are saying that this is the first bike they have ever owned since the motorcycle saftey class...if they have even taken it.

I assume 1st bike as either 1st bike ever period, or 1st street bike. just my .02

first bike period. thats the biggest issue. on dirt you atleast learn clutching with left and frt braking with right and rear braking with right foot. these are all things that riding on the street you should not have to conciously have to remember. it should be a reaction. you know you got it when your driving down the rode in your car and have to stop fast and your right hand strtches out for a brake

on the street you have tooo many other things to worry about besides which brake do I use, what gear am i in, clutch first then brake, if i go left do i push on the left handle bar or the right? There are many more things that dirt ridding atleast prepares you for but i wont go on.

on the street beginning with a large bike handicaps you to a degree. sure you can do it but...a smaller one allows you to master manueverability without fighting a 500# bike at the same time.

I wished I knew what folks think. I can say that this is the first bike I've ever "owned".

My "first bike" was my Busa, at age 30. Definitely not the first bike I have ridden!!!! More like the 20th.

Prior to my Busa, I was never on a motorcycle, nor have I ever owned one until now, I'm 28. I only rhode on a honda elite moped with a whopping top speed of 35mph and that was when I was 15, and I don't consider a moped a bike, do you?

I mean "first bike I've owned and have ridden at length" and I just don't see a problem with it being the first bike even for a beginner if common sense is used. I think it's all relative to the person though, A safety course also does wonders. I had folks that have been ridding for 10 yrs in my class and said they wish they would have taken a course earlier it would have saved some crashes. For anyone with a half a brain It really only takes a short time to get clutch control down and the other little things involved and to get comfortable with your machine, then it all becomes muscle memory and requires little to no thought at all and focus is then on watching out for the idiots on the road and hazzards but the safety class also teaches ways to limit these factors from leading up to a crash.

I don't know, but I always thought first "anything" meant just that. It's the FIRST.

Kinda like "Is this your first time jumping out of a plane?"

I'm not sure where this is going, and I'm sure as hell not sure if I answered Billy Busa's question. Just had to try my hand at it.
