A solution to loose header bolts

I"m sure all of you are tired of tightening your manifold bolts, having them come loose, or cracking the flange when it moves around too much. I've tried everything I could think of from lock-tight (bad idea) to locking washing. Finally found something that works. Had the head bolts drilled through with a small hole and safety wired them with some stainless steel wire. You can find the wire at Ace hardware store. I think it's important to use a true stainless wire rather than an regular steel wire. Here is a pic, it's held up good so far. I initially tightened the bolts, when for a ride over typical bumps and rough roads. Tightened them down again and wired them up. Seems like a permanent solution.

so header bolts are pretty much guaranteed to come loose huh?? how often do ya'll check on them?? i guess if the dump pipes wiggles, the header is loose?

i didn't know they would come loose constantly.. if so, that looks ingenious to me. yeah, i was looking @ how much torque it takes to break red loctite and as hard as it is to reach the bottom bolts i thought that would be the stupidest thing i could ever do.

ummm instead of running safety wire accross so many bolts with empty voids you could just wire each headers two header bolts together.

Thats a great idea i herd story's of the header bolts coming loose just installed my SRP kit and them bolts are hard to get at:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

A fix for loose headers is a set of stainless steel lock washers,.......and a custom bracket bolted to a secure point on the block. The header with turbo in place is like a pendulum. I will swing back and forth causing the bolts to become loose. Stop the swing,......hence,......a bracket,......and no more loose bolts,.........or at least not near as often. It's been tried and proven,.....but most of all,.....it makes good common sense. :beerchug:

i totally agree. i don't like the way how everything seems to hang from those 8 header bolts. i can't fabricate a bracket, but i may just use stainless wire and crank it tight to the old oilcooler(?) bracket left sitting behind the turbo.

yeah that swing you mention happens on cars with headers also that constant moving of the exhaust flexing makes them come loose, good point...
