Ok well what I was told was he was riding with a guy more experienced then him
and he was trying to keep up with him, in the process of arriving to an entrance
to fort riley he attempted to slow down and grab the front brake to hard and lose control
of his bike. He was wearing all his gear and everything he needed for the militarys
sake but be cause he was speeding his wife was denied his life insurance.

Prayers out...

Sad, but I've seen families denied life insurance for less. Prayers go out to the family.

Smonroe86,
Check back on this case in about 90 days and I'll bet you will find that the soldiers family recieved the insurance payment.

The Army rules are pretty firm about the safety gear. Speeding on the other hand is not grounds to deny payment. Also, there might be a difference between his SGLI payment and the motorcycle insurance. If he was wearing gear the SLI should be no problem.

My family lives there, out in Manhattan. I was there for MiTT training in Jan and Feb. I sold my bike to a guy that works at the airport, so maybe you will see it riding around.

oh yea I understand about the insurance part. Thats like dying in a car accident. Was he wearing his seat bet? yep ok well pay up. As long as you are wearing all your PPE then. All well thats not my lane, lol, I just know our battalion is collecting money for the cause, and turning all in to saving bonds for his kid.

Hey Guys,

Used to be stationed out at Fort Riley, Twice for that matter (hated it). in any case have his spouse contact the congressman or senator on the matter, Heads will start to roll then, this is CRAP. I hate it when the leadership gets a hard-on screwing Soldiers and their families. Somebody for crying out loud make the phone call for that family! I'm new to the subject here but Im not new when it comes to taking care of Soldiers. Some CSM is letting some Officer screw this family that is horse Manuer. Some body give me some dagum feed back concerning this situation cause this really pisses me off!

Guys,
It isn't the Army who decides whether SGLI pays... the Army can decide whether or not to pay medical expenses at a military facility (and they won't if you are't wearing your gear - at least the Corps and the Navy won't) but SGLI payouts are not up to the services. Is it possible it is a different policy that we are talking about?

Smonroe, very sorry to hear about your friend...

+1.... Navy wont pay SH%& if you dont have your gear on. (yet most dont) But i'd have to agree its not up to the Army to pay life insurance. They dont even hold the policy nor does Navy/Corps.
Unfortunatly the police report might have a high value in this case.
Either way, the phone call should be made, the family dosent deserve this no matter if he was stupid or not.
