after thought

Now that the dust has settled about my go down, it has me thinking. I notice we like to put the blame on the elements a lot ....water.......mud......Gravel....that person on the cell phone, eating a Chalupa . I'm just thinking (about all you can do with both your hands busted up) I thought riding through the wet grass & mud (from taking it out of the shed, and it is pretty swampy......but I've done it before ??) that was the cause of my spill, but how many times have I rode in the rain. The turn isn't an 1/8 of a mile from where I pulled out from, could it have been from cold tires ? I just don't understand I go around this turn EVERY DAY at least twice, at no more than 20 mph. just don't understand what would have caused this ??? ANY insight would be appreciated........I PROMISE my feelings won't get hurt......Too Bad, LoL

Oh KennyMan, I am so sorry to hear you had a "GetOff"! Bummer indeed, although you did get a few bumps and bruises. You'll heal up, trust me! I've been there on many occasions!

I actually did the same thing as you once upon a time and there is no sin in falling down. You don't become an advanced rider without falling down, I guarantee it! So tape that heifer up and get back in the saddle.

I may even sympathize with you on the wet tires with maybe a little sticky mud that most likely did play a big part of your loss of traction. Cold tires, any wet debries from grass, leaves, pine needles etc can hinder traction and apparently you were a victim of such.

Sorry about your hands. Is anything sprained or broken, roadrash on the knuckles, what?

I have a friend who hit a deer couple years back while wearing a pair of dirt bike gloves and he ended up with both hands useless for a while. He could use the tips of one finger on each hand that protruded out through the bandages to type but he couldn't even unzip his fly to take a pee. Nothing broken, all 60 mph roadrash! Both hands being bummed up changes your entire life, expecially when you need help to pee :-)

Heal up soon my friend and get back in the saddle!

There are some people on here who think they are skilled and experienced riders and they can always tell you what you did wrong. When a guy like Tuf tells you sh@t happens, you know he has been there and is not just posing as an expert.

No matter how good you are at this you still ride with your skill on one shoulder and fate on the other. You never now which one is going to let you down. Your crash could have been anything - maybe some oil on the spot from a passing car, maybe some gravel, anything. Or maybe you f'd up?

Like Tuf said saddle up and in a few miles you'll forget it and be a better rider.

lemme see if i can help ya out here...

1. There's only two types of riders..those who have gone down and those who havent gone down "yet".

2. There's only two types of "BAD" go-downs:

A. The one you dont get up and walk away from and?..

B. The one you learn no lesson from.

Dude..like others have said?..stuff happens...if it's of any consolation?..i had a very simular go down with my busa..right in my own driveway...early dark morning riding to work..wifey didnt park her minivan the way i like..had to get off the concrete drive and onto the grass (to get around her minivan) and my thoughts all came together at the same time..as my headlight shined on the grass?...i could see it was wet..and as i went to cut back up on the driveway?..i approached at too shallow of an angle and the lipped driveway ripped the bars out of my hands and down we went..boy was i pi$$ed at how wifey parked the minivan but..not much damage to oren at all..my vortex frame sliders and cyclecat rearset peg took the brunt of it all..kinda giggled inside a bit cause she was perfectly balanced and teetering on the peg and slider..the only paint damage was a minor scuff on the underside of the lower left engine cover..that said?..

I take every precaution and always proceed with caution..and anytime i go through anything that aint clean dry asphault?..i do the "clean'em up weave & wobble"..ride hard on cold tires?..no way..warm'em up first..always seems we have a lot of "LESS THAN A MILE" go downs this time of year...couldja blame the cold weather?..no more than i could blame my wife for where and how she parked her minivan..did i learn a lesson?..yep..after that BS?..you oughta see how i handle "surface level changes" on roads in the process of being repaved...HARD LEFT BABY! LOL!

Thanks Tuff, good to hear from you old friend.

It was cold out that morning so I put on a pair of (here we go........) winter Harley Davidson gloves. I wonder if I'd had on my riding gloves if my hands would be this way ?? I also broke my Scorpion helmet.

I think the playing it over & over & over again in your mind is almost as bad as the crash it self ?? It's so hard to do anything, The taking a pee thing....yupp, That's where I'm at. I almost dropped the tea pitcher when it came off the shelf, and I felt the weight of it........OOOOUCH !!! I feel like a weirdo, "hey man, can you get my lighter outta my pocket for me PLEASE". My friend then says "if your pockets are cut out you're dead !!"

I just don't get it......how could it be wet tires with a little mud ? How many times have we all rode in the rain, and gone through some mud. I guess it doesn't matter WHAT it was that caused it.....it happened. It just HURTS to see my bike
like that, I guess it could have been worse ??

Have the leaves been falling in your area yet? They can leave a nice little oil slick, combined with rain, gravity happens.
