Air Pressure Gauges

What do you guys use to insure you have correct tire pressure? And how accurate are most gauges? I'm a bit puzzled because I have three fairly new Accu-Gage's and they all give a different reading, one reads 36, another reads 38 while the third one reads 42 all checking the same tire. What's up with that? I thought these were supposed to be reliable gauges, how in the world do I determine which is correct?

An inexpensive pencil gauge is the most accurate and a time proven design.
Either Cyclist or Motor Trend did a test a few years ago and found the pencil gauge the most accurate and most consistent.

Be careful. If you are checking the same tire you will lose a little PSI every time you check and then the numbers really start to jumble.
No way the numbers will go up unless they are progressively bad gauges. Try one gauge three times and record the results, pump tire, use same gauge once, then try next gauge three times, pump tire repeat and record, you may then find a trend or a gauge that is out, but you need at least three gauges to determine which is the culprit.

that is until the gauge shoots out. Had that happend to me twice, both only a couple months old. I gave up and went digital.

Bought mine at a truck stop, a good one, same as truckers use. mine is over 20 years old.

I have this one for track pressures. It's a bit spendy but it is accurate withing 1/10th of a pound. I tested it with two seperate $400 gauges used by the tire vendors.
