R-1 go to http://www.yzf-r1-forum.com Do a search on exhaust. Most of the guys there are using the Akrapovich,Hindle and M-4. One of the forum members (Ivan) also owns a bike company. He makes custom needles. I have seen his bike run, it is very fast. The only preformance parts he had at the time was an exhaust and his needles. It's at least worth a look.

XtremeR-1: Don't buy either one of those pipes if looking sound. There is not much sound from either one of those!

But, If you do decide to get a new pipe get one thats not carbon fiber. This way you'll be able to remove the packing and the baffle and run with just an end cap. Then the bike will sound likes it runs!

Frank: I was wondering why you would take out your baffles and packing.... you loose alot of HP cause there's no backpressure.... my dad's gotta full RS-3 Race on his busa and that pipe is loud as f#@k... but I've also heard that the Akropovics give the R-1's 15hp increase... So I dunno... if you find anything keep me posted thanks..

Thats a bunch of bull about back pressure...you will loose torque and gain HP...no pro-stock runs a baffle of any kind...wonder why.

I have been hearing that the Akr. is a good pipe for that bike. Whatever you chose let me know and I will see if I can beat there price. My email is in my profile.

For the Hayabusa it would be a toss up, For the R-1 definitely the Akropovic. My dynotuner says he has yet to see an exhaust system alone put out as much HP as an Akropovic does on a R-1.

I have a yosh with alum. can without packing and a modified baffle...its loud...and to me sounds great...I hate a quiet pipe...I have a micron with carbon can and cannot run without packing ...it runs great but to me is very quiet...they have sent me a aluminum can so I can do the same as the yosh...noise makes you feel like you`re going fast even though you`re not...us old men need that ...

You would be very well served to investigate what Muzzy's has to offer. I know what your thinking, they only work on kawis. Right? WRONG! Read any exhaust system shootout no matter what the bike and you'll find muzzy at the top every time. I just put a muzzy lite full ti system with C/F race can on a 2000 XX and gained 17hp. Entire system weighs 6lbs. They make the r1 system in full ti or stainless with the usual choice of cans. BIG dyno gains. Dont take my word, do the research. I think you'll be amazed.

17Hp gain,( get outta here), I'm sorry it just sounds like too much just from a pipe alone. Did you have to remap that XX
or does it self compensate? Jorge

Omega, were those gains made on the dyno? you mean to tell me that there is no fine tuning to be had. I'm curious b/c my friend just bought a y2k XX and wants to get a pipe on his, 17hp still seems like alot though, saw a 99 at Daytona at biketoberfest, was put on the dyno in front of me and he made 141hp w/yosh pipe. Also don't mean to start a new thread but why did you choose the XX over the Busa?

Xtreme i just sold my R-1. I had a M4, if you want the sound it's da one. The price is also good, i paided 600.00 for stainless with carbon oval can. Shim the needle's and reset the screws on the carb's. CALL m4 and they will talk to you about the jetting. One other thing you will lose some bottom when you take off the Ex-up.

Extreme,
The Akropovic sounds good on a R1, It's a deep low rumble. I have one on my Busa, at idle it is not loud, if you get on it, it's more than loud enough. If your looking for the loudest pipe you can Find get something else. If your looking for a good combination Akropovic is your pipe.

Xtreme I see you live in Sandusky, Ohio? If this is correct I live 15 miles east of downtown Cleve. A friend of mine has an Akro on his R1. Let me know if you want to hear it.

You can also email Turbo810@aol.com

Now I'm even more confused and tossed up.... I've always had yosh on my bike and my dads as well.... I'm just kinda leary about trying a diff company.... I always thought muzzy's where for Kawi's but I'm not gonna pre-judge that... All my friends here where saying get a hindle, micron, or an m-4... but I'm on a somewhat of a budget. What about D&D?? I heard their just noise makers.. =) You guys know if Yosh has more HP increase or Akro???

The Akropovic is the best pipe for HP on the R1. Realistic figures are right at 11 HP with no jetting changes. By fine tuning the jetting you can get an additional 3-4 HP. The M4 is the next best gaining an honest 10 HP with no jetting changes and the 3-4 additional fine tuning the jetting. For a look at Dyno sheets from real people (not the manufacturers) go to http://members.tripod.com/~YZFR1/98yzfr1.html This is Greg Crowe's web site for the R1. When it comes to the R1 this man has done the most research.

Akr. does. They are used more on the superbikes then any other pipe. I can get you a good deal on any pipe so let me know which one you want.
