Over the weekend I took the longest ride on the bike so far...it was only about 370 miles round trip. But we were on the bikes for about 8 hours due to the speed limit and traffic in the Keys. I have a Tobin seat and I really thought it would be more comfortable than it was after only being on the bike about 3 hours. Man after that I had to change positions and stand up a few times for some relief from that point on. I made it through the day with no problem but I'm just curious, to those of you out there with a Tobin/New Image seat...how long does it take if even at all before discomfort begins to settle in? Any suggestions on how to make those long rides more comfortable on the hind side? :moon: I thought about getting some of those biking shorts with the gel pads for the Derriere.

Also to the guys who are long distance riders, I'm open for input/suggestions. I really enjoyed the trip and just looking to add a little more comfort for future treks.

I'm right there with you brother. My arse hurts like a SOB after 4-5 hours in the saddle. I'm beginning to think my stock seat is better.

A lot of the guys like the biking shorts but I've never tried them so I don't know. I have a stock seat that I have done 1080 miles on in a day. The trick for me is to start working on maintaining the blood flow to the rear and legs early in the ride. All I do is flex those parts of my body every 10-15 minutes from the start of the ride. I have found that if I wait until I am feeling discomfort or fatigue, it is too late to do anything about it. I start early, maintain it throughout the ride, and don't seem to be wiggling nearly as much as everyone else at the end of the day. :beerchug:

Eventually your ass and upper thighs go kinda numb, except for the tingling /burning sensations. Its more of a mind over matter kinda thing, you have to really embrace the pain to get past it :beerchug:

EVERY 20-30 miles stretch out your legs and then stand on the pegs for a few seconds and you should be fine. Get into the habit of doing this every 20-30 miles and you will be able to ride all day, that and gas stops.

I just did more than 1,100 miles in over 21 hours last Sunday and never experience any discomfort/pain. I'm not sure if you're willing to try the Corbin and I'm not sure if it will work for you but if you love long distance riding, I think you should give it a try. I don't wear padded shorts and I'm still smiling at the end of the ride. I can never ride without Corbin. I never had to keep stretching or change my position while riding and we only take a break when we need gas (every 150 miles or so).
Here's proof.
First pic is the time we left and the beginning mileage. The second one is the time I got home and the ending mileage.

I love my corbin, but let me tell you, taking off and putting it back on makes me want to pick up my bike and throw it against a wall:tantrum::tantrum::tantrum:

Curious what issues you're having. Mine is OFF and ON in a jiffy! (bike is an '08),

Everyone is different and you will need to find what works for you. My butt would go numb after a couple of hours on the stock seat. I have a Tobin now and I have had no issues with 500+ miles a day.

I have an 01 and when i set the seat where it belongs, the brackets dont line up correctly to thread the screws. The brackets sit too far back and i have to literally twist the entire seat to get one screw in and repeat for the other side. pain in my arse

My Tobin sits on the shelf in the garage. Never did like it. The Corbin is much more comfortable for me. I just did the Corbin Seat Comfort Mod on the weekend so it should be even better now.

I agree to some extent. You need to try several seat types if you can. Some bodys just don't fit a tobin, others (my Corbin on my Duc was great, but so PAINFULL on my TLR I couldn't ride it even after mods). So, if you can, find someone with a Corbin or a Sargent and see what it's like :beerchug:

My 09 with stock seat and i was doing same thing he was .
We stopped for a bit and then rode on .
Both he and I were standin on our pegs every now and then but I was right with him the whole way and just as uncomfy.
Didn't help much that it was over 90 plus degrees and on the verge of raining so humidity was very high . I rode with O Holy P and what really sucked was last ten miles when I was stuck on Turnpike in rain so hard all slowed down to around ten mph. He got off earlier as he lived a bit further south than I but I had to keep trucking on .
I'm still wet !

I'm curious, too. I can take mine OFF and put it back on in probably less than 2 minutes. Never had an issue in the last 2 years and 11 months of owning it.

How tall are you? IDK if a Tobin is good for anybody over 6ft. I think it would be better to add padding ,to give more inseam, to go along with the buell pegs, just my 3 cents.

We have done the long trips a couple of times with average of 500 miles a day for 14 days and our secret is simple. Keep the heat away.... Stand up and let air flow, when your butt gets hot it starts to get uncomfortable, keep the circulation flowing like everyone else has mentioned, stick your leg out straight, hang off one side then the other. Just make sure to keep your blood flowing and that will help... take breaks even if you dont think you need it. As Semi said if you wait until it gets uncomfortable its too late...
