Am I being cheap

Is it just me, or is $5k a bit much to pay for a salvage 07 that is still wrecked.  This would be a second/project bike for me so I am not afraid of the work, but with all the visible damage and having not seen the bike first hand, I am thinking around $3500. Link to original add

If it is as described not a bad deal. I would look at it person before commiting to anything. How far is it from you.

correct me if I am wrong, but isnt the stator cover on the left...not the right? Maybe just a typo...or someone who doesnt know much about bikes listing what is wrong with the bike.

I don't think you are being cheap, just being selective.

It looks like there's going to be some not so easily visible damage. Not only that, but that ad reads like a joke. It's an insult to anybody's intelligence to say that all it needs is: X, Y, and Z. I bet it was "babied, and only ridden on Sundays to church. Never raced, or dropped". And "price is firm"? Yeah, right. Your $3,500 offer would be generous.

If you can score it on the cheap as a project, it might be a good score, IMHO.

well, your getting an 08' for less then 1/2 price new, looks like all it needs is a tank, clutch cover, fairing and mirror, get all that for under 1k and you have a new bike..if that was on the east cost i may jump on that,I say if you have the cash, get it,repair it and sell it for 9k and make a nice profit

I would talki hime down. It cant be a bad bike with 2k miles on it. I would raize hell about the tank and see what i can get.

the seller is pretty close I sent him a note to view it this weekend. I just wanted to get another set of eyes on this to make sure I wasnt low balling the guy. I will be asking how the accident happened.

doesnt look like a real bad accident, looks like he just laid it down,I did this last yr making a turn too fast,it was just plastic damage, nothing mechanical,it probably scared the hell out of him to where he wont ever ride again now,so he's selling rather then fix...make a good inspection and make an offer,I dont imagine it will be hard for him to sell it,

I wish it was an 08, but I just saw a rebuilt salvaged 07 on here and folks got testy about a $7k sales price. I figure just from the pictures its atleast $2500 in repairs. Not to mention it looks bone stock. So with my math $3k to $3500 for the bike, and $2 to $2500 in repars, thats $5k to $6k which where I have seen these sell rebuilt, but I just figured my logic was off

Don't do it. You can buy a used one for that price. $5000 plus the replacement parts, it's not worth it all.

Oh damn,it is an 07',your decision!

Not as easy to sell a bike with a "Salvage" title. Take that into account.

salvage anything 50% off any book value (and that is if it is fixed)

you have not had a headache till you go to sell a salvage title vehicle..

Now if you are buying it to ride into the ground that is another story.. as a project vehicle that needs fixed? maybe 25% of book (they were already paid off on the bike if it was insured, if they were not, too bad for them)

just my opinion on salvage....

Oh and if the stator cover needs replaced, it is damaged on both sides....

it will prob. cost about 3k to get it back to norm. if you have shops do all the work. so then your at 8k inv. with a salvage title.

prob. not a good deal.
