AMA Superbike Testing In Fontucky

Just read about the first test of the year for the AMA boys at Fontana today. Spies topped the test followed by Mladin by .4 seconds. Not really in love with the new Rockstar/Makita/Yoshimura Suzuki paint schemes but thats a small price to pay for total domination. I cannot wait for Daytona!

Nice!! that's in my neck of the woods and my usual trackday track!

I personally love the new colors. But the team name is to long. I'll just call em Team RMYS. Or Team Mladin/Spies.

I'd love to go to a test, but...there's a reason why those things are "top secret." Oh well, I'll just go to the Fontucky race in April.

Dang. a 23.3 and a 23.7!!! That's blazing fast for that track. My best lap time there was a 1:40. And that already feels "on the edge" to me.

And did you notice Yosh/Zuk are now running dual exhaust rather than their traditional single exhaust?

Yeah but only in that one picture from cycle news. If you read the first link it talks about the differnece in sound between the 3 yosh bikes wonder if this is why? The WSBK Suzuki's have run duals for a while now?

I know the 09 AMA rules calls for a complete homologation and must run the exact number of exhausts as the streetbikes.

Yosh also is conforming to 09 rules this year by going to fiberglass bodywork as opposed to carbon fiber. The number fonts are pretty cool. They look MotoGP-ish.

I think the bikes look great

I read in Cycle World that Zuk went back to duals on the 1000 because Mladin and Spies prefer the weight down low, as opposed to one, larger mass under the seat.

Ben must have seen my leathers & wanted his own Captain America set. I like it.

hmmmmm.....interesting.

The Yosh bikes never had undertail exhaust. Just the single side exhaust just like the street gixxer. And the new AMA rules state that the bikes must be homologated, meaning they must run the dual exhaust just like the current GSXR1000 bikes. The reason for the rule change is that 1.) the superstock and superbike classes are so close in lap times that it's redundant to have two 1000cc classes, 2.) assure that the "premier riders" ride the "premier class." 3.) to decrease the "confusion" of multiple 600cc and 1000cc classes, and 4.) to try and bring the field a little closer together, a la WSBK.

But, the dual pipes probably do help a little as their lap times are in the low to mid 23's at CA Speedway-which is a little better than their qualifying times.
