I bought a Tobin seat last year and its very nicely made and looks good and the seating surface is leather. I can't say that its alot better than the stock seat for comfort (the stock seat is very good) but it looks great on the bike. My only problem with it is that it is wider than the stock seat at the front of the seat and it makes it more of a challenge for me to get my feet flat on the ground at stops - but I am short only a 30 inch inseam so if you are taller it would not be a problem.

Hope that helps

Kent

The seat is still slippery enough for you to slide left to right on. Check with Tobin to see what conditioner he recommends to treat it with. That will help too.

Thanx guys. KS I have a 29-30 inseam and the ZX12r is a little tall for me but the busie is fine.

Clr. I should have asked how does the seat slide if wearing leathers... I think my draggin jeans would be fine but was wondering about leather against leather ... ?

I'm thinking about getting my seats done also. My only concern is that I'm a bigger guy, about 6'4" 250 lbs and I don't know how cutting the seats down will affect my riding. Any help?

Funtionality wise the stock seat is good.Tobin seat somehow
restrict my butt from transition from left to right.I think it has alot to do with the shape of the seat..

Good to know, I think that you can get them made without being cut now

Affect your riding in what way? I'm 6'3" 225 lbs. and enjoy the seats. I don't have any problems with sliding, but you may find that you have to actually lift your buttocks a little before sliding. They do after all look and feel great!

I'm no kneedragger but I like to move my wieght around in the the turns. I was riding my cuz' ZX12 the other day and had to lift my butt up off the seat just to move from side to side in the twisties, I hated it ... so with the Tobins anyone riding like me? and how do you like it?

I said you may have to lift your cheeks a little, but the seats are leather. Put some softener on it and make it smooth as a baby's butt!

Just purchase another set of stock seats or get some off of ebay! When you're going to attack the curves use the stock and when you're dragging or want to look smoove like a P.I.M.P. use the tobins.

I meant that because you're down into the bike further, how is the positioning of your legs affected, for us taller guys. Do your legs feel cramped at all due to the new position?

I am with you on this one.In the twisties i slide side to side
i notice if lift my butt off the seat it upset the bike specially
going downhill..

A correction... Tobin's seats are NOT real leather. They are leather look vinyl. I confirmed this with Tobin when I bought my seats. So, unless you paid extra and specified real leather, your Tobin seats are vinyl.

Good info to know about the wider seat, since I too only have a 29 inseam and I'm going to be raising the bike one inch for the twisty, I need less seat width, not sure what to do, I wanted to get a Tobin seat, but now having 2nd thoughts.
Hawaiibusa have you bought the Tobin seat yet? If so how is it working?

TOBIN USES STOCK SEAT PANS, THEY ARE NOT WIDER. THe factory foam peaks, the Tobin foam does not, thus the seat may seem wider but it is only a problem when stopped putting your leg down. Which for most of us isn't a big deal, legs aren't down much and the seat is comfy once moving.

My problem was the rear Butt roll forced the Twins into the tank in a most uncomfortable manner, it just plain sucked. Side to side transitions didn't seem like they were effected, but the lack of front to rear freedom of motion I found to be too much to deal with. So I sold it to Cecil and he loves it.

Good seats, well made, but wasn't for me.

It WILL lower you a fair bit on the bike, so it will give you LESS effective leg room, while removing some pressure from your wrists and bringing the ground a little closer to your feet.
