Anti-freeze

I know this has been discussed before but what is the general opinion of this board which brand is best. I have been told some auto anti-freeze is bad on the water pump blades. Does everyone agree that distilled water is also best to go with? THANKS !!

CBX,

Any quality antifreeze mixed 50/50. I think the "bike" antifreeze is bull. You can run distilled, but it will eventually corrode the system internals. Easy way to tell old racebikes, look in the radiator for the white corrosion.

Distill water is the best unless you are where it is f***ing freezing. But you do need to add a water pump lubercant to the water or it will seize the waterpump bearing.Worst case I will use 80%water 20% antifreeze

CBX, just make sure coolant doesn'a have silicates. Long life never does, and it last longer. I used prestone long life with distilled water. It still has a weird color because it had a little green left, but by the second time it should be all orange. I changed it at 100 miles, and it had all kinds of crap.

Dex-cool at 40% and distalled water at 55%. Water wetter at 5%. In my opionion that is perfact.Oh by the way----change every 6 months.

I personally would not use the new 5 year antifreeze, I've seen some awful shi t in cooling systems of new cars from that red antifreeze.

Another good question is Electrolysis......do you think it will affect our bikes?

Did you know that emergency vehicles in New York City are being converted to Evans? Corrosion is nil (because of no water). Pressure is low (because of less cylinder wall surface boil). It does have a lower surface tension though so it may "find" it's way out of less than perfect seals.
