Any problems with your recall?

Had to buy bike from a dealer 80 miles away because the local dealers were sold-out. I'd like to get the work done locally, but the service department doesn't want to buy the recall parts from the dealer I bought the bike from. Anyone else have these problems?

Do what I did...bought one 160 miles from home..other one 250 miles from home ...had them both ship me the parts and I did it myself. Hated to travel to get them but its the only place that I could find the colors that I wanted at a decent price.

Call motor vehicle in your state they have to fix your bike at any Suzuki Dealership. It's the Law.

Call Suzuki in Brea Calif.

I work at a dealership, yeah I dont like doing recalls in the first place(does not pay that well) But a recall is a recall safety and making sure the bike is preforming properly is the most important. If the have the parts in stock tell them to do it , if not call Suzuki in Brea CA.

Tensionser was in first then fuel pump parts came in weeks later. Had the work done after all parts had arrived. Left the bike at Aurora Suzuki in Seattle for 24 hours. The folks there are very nice and I was happy with the way I was treated. Bike ran well after I got it but seemed a little down on power. Bothered me enough to tear down the fuel pump where I found a small o-ring not seated in place which I guess may have kept the fuel pressure down a bit. This errror was tricky since the bike ran smoothly and almost made the same power.

Here's my story, called local Santa Clara Dealer to have my Hayabusa recall done, they had the chain Teninor but no fuel filter, waited three weeks until had opening to do the job, left the bike there at 9:30 didn't pick the bike up until 3pm and found out that they did not have the chain Teninor installed.Took the bike for a test ride and the bike began to sputtered and would not hold idle,I thought the gas level was low and went to fill up with gas.Left the gas station and almost crashed, bike sputtered and would not idle correctly.I went back to the dealer alittle mad, took out my own tools in front of the dealer and checked for problem. The tech came out and asked what was wrong and I told him that the bike was dying on me,we looked for the problem and found that he forgot to put back a vacuum hose to the airbox which caused one of the sensors not to work.I was told that they would call me when the chain teninor was in,called two weeks later no chain teninor, called the manager and she said that the chain teninor was backed ordered.I had my wife go to Bike World in Sunnyvale,Ca,they had the teninor and would release one to Santa Clara store. Two weeks went by no calls.Went to San Mateo International Show and talked to the Western regional rep and he said he would help out,now another week no phone calls. The regional rep took down my name and the dealers name and he even knew the service manager at the dealer that I was having problems with. Now here I wait two months for a simple chain teninor install and I was told I could not do it even thou I did all my work on my 89GSXR and 98TL-R bikes plus my friend owns Rob's Cycle San Jose and could have done the work since he was once a Suzuki Tech.My signed recipt that I got back from the dealer shows that the gas filter and chain teninor job on it and the total man hours to do both jobs. When the bike was picked up no release recipt was given to me,I was told that the chain teninor was not done. Now go figure. Most people would be boiling mad,but I figured that humans make mistake but when it involves my life being on the line the next step would be a good Lawyer.Hope you won't run into the same problem I'm having.Ride Safe.

JP the recall and bulletins were just a nightmare of bull flap, cold rainy rides, taxis, questions to guys on this board, arguements with overweight puffed-up attitudinally-challenged ex-biker service managers, broken promises and waiting around for hours and hours reading stuff you pull out of the service department waste basket.

PLUS a lot of guys on this board have had dealers screw up the work badly. Stay on them, and tell them that the work...especially the fuel pump & filter work, is NOT as simple to do correctly as it may look. Just that part alone takes 3 hours to do properly...and there are many opportunities for small errors that will destroy your machine's driveability.

I don't even want to talk about it. I hope they fixed that stuff for you guys who are getting 00s.

And now a word for the "good guys". San Diego House of Motorcycles. They had tensioner, first. Bike in morning, out less than an hour later. . Bike was done half hour after I left it. They called me on my pager, while I was still in neighborhood. Other recalls done 2 weeks later, when parts came in. Labor took a little longer, but still same day. I used to own a bike shop, myself, so I can appreciate their efforts. Hope there are more good experiances, than bad. See ya !

DP - the 2000 models are supposed to have the new tensioner. The later model 99's (mine included - built in May) already have the new filters according to Suzuki.

I just posted my tale of woe on the "Cut out again" thread. No need to repeat it here, but it's pretty obvious that Suzuki's fix isn't.
