I was recently in Las Vegas. I decided to take a trip down the strip so I figured I would put my high-beam on to make sure I could be seen in all the traffic down there. This was during the daytime and it was hot, but I didn't expect to have any problems with my bike. Anyway, somewhere between the strip and Hoover dam, my high-beam bulb either A.) fell out of the headlight housing or B.) the high-beam exploded in the housing from the heat and then fell out. In any case, the end result was a meltdown of biblical proportions that made me wanna cry and go home. Basically, this little event toasted the wiring harness for the high-beam, the upper air dam, the headlight bucket, and (ta-da!) my upper cowling/fairing. Needless to say this is going to be an expensive fix on this one!
So, has anyone ever had this happen? Am I just a dumbass that didn't realize you can't run your high-beam during the day in the heat? This is one of the most bizarre problems I've ever seen with any bike I've owned.
