I was thinking about buying a used one to mess around on, I know it is a big step down from the Busa. If you have one let me know what you think about the power (is it enough)
Torque ? Thanks,

Frank

Frank, I have got a pair of Vmax's and a Busa, 1 Max is my wife's and 1 is mine. The reason for the Busa is cause my Max is too modified for long distance rides (1500cc/14:1), that's when I ride the 'Bus'. Back in 85 the Max was like the Busa today , "king of the street". As a matter of fact it's reputation was so strong and powerful that it still lives today. In stock form the Max does not hold a candle to the performance of the Busa. The Max just has a certain attitude that different from all other bikes. When parking the Max everyone comes to talk to me, sport bike people, Harley people and even car people. Go have a look at my webpage and checkout my Max. It cranks out 185HP @ the wheel on pump gas and 220HP with a small shot of NOS. Send me an Email if you want to talk 'Max'.

I don't have one but I've ridden my cousin's. If you're just buying a bike for transportation I wouldn't call it a "big" step down. In fact, it's torque characteristics are the closest thing to a busa that I've ridden. It's definitely got balls down low, nothing like a peaky top-end-only sportbike (a la GSXR750 or any 600). It's not a canyon carver by any stretch of the imagination, but will get you around town well enough.

I had a 1989 & a 1999 -- great for scooting around & does not come close to the Busa Experience in Stock form -- the VMAX modified has 1/4 mile numbers that run better than a stock BUSA.....but I would Never Go back to the Old King -- I have alot of respect for the VMAX & one thing I hated was the Low & High speed Wobbling problem they customarily have.....more mods needed.

I recently rode a 1996 VMAX & it felt weird.
Brakes need help on that Baby too --

HORSE :)

My last bike was a 95 V-MAX.The bike is comfortable and would be great on a trip. You have to fuel up every 100 miles.I ran a 7.3 sec 1/8 mile @95mph with a street tire.My buddy bought the bike from me and we went for a ride on mon.If i shift the busa at 5500 the v-max does not get to far away from me.I am still breaking in my Busa, lucky for him.A V-MAX would be a great second bike.

I don't remember the Vmax ever being the "King of the street",back in 85 I was spanking Vmax's with my FJ1100,and the Vmax could not hold a candle to a Suzuki GS1150ES!

Ruff, The Max destroyed the FJ back in 85. Like always this was dependant on the rider... I'll try to dig up some old magazine articles.

I have a 94 V-max it was customized by mad max.Its got a 2" over swing arm, lowered hindle exhaust,3 spoke wheels, chicken hauler yellow paint job. This thing looks awsome. Its also for sale.10,500 and its yours.I'm not crazy about the "giving birth" riding position.Thats fine for a harley, but 130hp in that riding position isnt for me.

How can you say a Vmax (about 145 mph top speed) destroys a FJ1100 (top speed 155 mph),that don't compute,I don't know about your area, but around Detroit,Vmax's were easy prey,I always liked the Vmax, but it is hard to drag race a shaftie, when Suzuki made the GS1150E model without the fairing, that was the King here.

There is no comparison between a V-Max and an FJ in any roll on. I rode for years ('88 - '98) on my V-Max with a good buddy on an FJ.

I could kill him anywhere in a straight line. But the FJ was much easier to handle in the corners. (I killed him in the corners too, but that's another story).

Whoever that was who said that a stock FJ will pull a stock V-Max in a staight line has no fix on reality. Or test results either.

Another case of revisionism, which seems to be a rampant practise on these boards.

GO CHECK THE MAG TESTS FROM THAT ERA, BRAGGER! You put up mag tests from that era, and I'll put up mine. I've got them. 10:91 in the quarter. Let's compare numbers.

If I remember correctly Jay Gleason took a FJ1100 to a 10.43 1/4 mile, top speed on a FJ was 154.5,the Vmax could only muster 145,so where does the Vmax shine?

V-Max is a definite keeper.A Navy buddy of mine had one in '85.I had a V65 Magna. Both bikes were awesome.FJs were not an issue in light to light type riding.I too have been kicking around the idea of a second bike for cruising around on.
I actually pissed off my girlfriend when I traded my Magna for a Hurricane in '88.She liked the other one because it was more comfortable and had a backrest(although small). Is there a lesson here?

Ruff, Gleason ran a 10.33 on the Max back in 85, wow that guy could ride ! Let's not beat this to death. Everyone know's that back in 85 the Max was 'king of the street'. It had way more HP and torque than the FJ.

That's it and that's all...

"Way more TQ and HP"
I don't hear anyone commenting on the 10 mph topspeed difference?
I was a avid street racer in `85,the Vmax's were not even competitive, the FJ's and the GS1150's were the hot ticket, and if anyone knows the Detroit street racing scene, they know it was intense and a lot of money changed hands, the guys with the Vmax's were merely spectators, they knew better than to put one of those shaft-driven tanks on the line, how many of you guys got a stock Vmax in the 10's,the line starts on the left. :D
