Anything just as good as the Valentine one?

I know everyone says that the Valentine one is the best, but I'm not willing to pay $500 for it. Could someone suggest anything else other than that item? Like from Radioshack or anything company? :) Something just as good.

FRQ FLYR, where abouts did you purchase yours? is there a way i can see a picture of poop? and how much did it run you? What's the difference between yours and the Valentine? Thanks

There isn't a detector currently on the market that has tested as well as the V1 overall but the Bel usually comes in 2nd place albiet a good distance back. I don't recall the exact Bel model tested though.
If you can't afford a V1 try to at least pick up a Bel.

Wilf - here is good writeup on a motorcycle specific bel with pics and info:

You can also check out the entire line at:

but it looks like their web site is under construction. There are Bel Canadian contacts listed though. You can also use a search engine like infoseek.com and find information on Bel products from various distributers and sales outlets.

Todd, thanks alot I appreciate it. I was just wondering does this item fit in your pocket? because i really don't know how this thing really works and what does it do. Do I have to mount anything on the windsheild or is it underneath? If you could help me out here I would greatly appreciate it alot. Thanks

I looked at this particular model Bel when I first purchased my Busa as I was trying to avoid having to move my existing V1 back and forth between my cars and the bike. It's battery powered and everything is self contained in the main unit which can be placed in your pocket. It comes with reflectors which allow for the unit to be standing upright in your pocket but still be receptive to radar with the use of the reflectors. (laser/lidar coverage would be compromised in a shirt pocket?) With the recent increase of speedtraps in my area (it was already pretty bad) I ended up moving the V1 back and forth between the cars and the Busa. The stretch of HW between my work and home is under seige by no less than THREE law enforcement agencies (city, county and state) and I make four to six runs per day (one way) on this stretch. Since I don't actually own the Bel perhaps FRQ FLYR could provide some user info on his Bel?
Like a lot of Busa owners I like to stretch her legs a lot but for some reason my area of this backward state seems to have more than its fair share of radar firing cops. I took a trip to the New Mexico rockies this summer and was only clocked once on the entire trip.(26 hours of driving both ways) It's not unusual for me to be clocked 5 or 6 times per DAY at home just going back and forth to town. Fortunately all these loose cannons with radar make it very easy to detect and evade with a decent detector.

The HW between town and work is 4 lane and one of the few in the state that remained at 55mph after the speed limits were increased state wide. Local officials requested and received permission to retain the 55mph speed limit for this particular stretch.(about 8 miles) Revenue would have dropped drastically if the speed limit was actually increased to reasonable levels. It's a war zone now with city police, county sherrifs and State HW patrols (including Z-28s with LS-1s) prowling the stretch for revenue. It's also the reason I've been so interested in having an accurate speedo on the Busa and good detectors. I know exactly how far over the limit I can be clocked at and not be stopped.
So many cops can be a distraction and actually hinders safe driving/concentration on traffic (IMO) but I enjoy the challenge! :)
