Are Clear Alternatives Brighter Than Stock?

No, I went smoked. Wasn't sure it was a CA until it arrived (long story). Just don't wanna start patching wires to find it's not at least as bright as the stocker.

At least as bright as stock if not more. I have the smoked on mine and am very happy with it.

Thanks! Seems to be mixed emotions on 'em. I was assured the tail light I was getting was 'plug and play', and I know the CA's require a mod. to keep the flasher rate. At least mine came with the resistors/ballasts. Can always be worse.

Hook it to the battery and see if you approve of the brightness if your worried about it. Easy way to tell without cutting up your wires.

They're still in a taped up CA box. Don't wanna hinder the return by opening a electrical part.

There is two ways to get the blinker rate slowed down. I first used the supplied resisters, then when i did the Switchback tower LED's for my front turn signals, i did Omslaw's blinker modular mod. Had to get rid of the resisters in back, but the mod was a better fix. Go with the CA light, you will like it.

You should not have to hack anything to plug it it. Mine had the base of an 1157 bulb, like the stock bulb that I plugged into. I kept my stock lens I tinted myself, I did not like the looks of the CA lens

I was referring to the LED CA's. I want something that lights up like a billboard back there.
My biggest fear is getting smacked in the keister! :spank:

Decided to give it a try. I understand what Ludicrous Speed was saying about the tail light plug in, You remove the 1157 bulbs and the LED board has a 1157 base so it just plugs into one of the two sockets. You remove the other socket to run the boards turn signal wires through.

The Smoked lens matches my bikes silver/gray nicely, but didn't care much for the lights color (kind of dull red) when the light or brake was on. Same goes for the turn signals, kind of dull yellow with the smoke lens. Tried the stock red lens over the LED's and the brake and TL is a brilliant red, very bright from behind and kinda fades as you go to the side. Still bright, just not as bright as from the rear. The turn signals also look better w/ the red lens IMO, probably not a legal amber though.

So for now I'm using the LED w/out its turn signals hooked up w/red lens. I like that it flashes from center outward like 5 times before staying steady when the brake's applied. Real attention getter!

Given the cost and outcome, I would've just replaced the 1157 bulbs with those flashy LED ones and got after market turn signal replacements.

If someone is set on the CA's, I'd suggest the clear lens. Smoked or colored impacts the lights color to much. JMO though.
