You stay up for 16 hours

He stays up for days on end.

You take a warm shower to help you wake up.

He goes days or weeks without running water.

You complain of a "headache", and call in sick.

He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward.

You put on your anti war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meet up with your friends.

He still fights for your right to wear that shirt.

You make sure you're cell phone is in your pocket.

He clutches the cross hanging on his chain next to his dog tags.

You talk trash about your "buddies" that aren't with you.

He knows he may not see some of his buddies again.

You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls.

He patrols the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists.

You complain about how hot it is.

He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow.

You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong.

He doesn't get to eat today.

Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes.

He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapons are clean.

You go to the mall and get your hair redone.

He doesn't have time to brush his teeth today.

You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over.

He's told he will be held over an extra 2 months.

You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight.

He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home.

You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday.

He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume.

You roll your eyes as a baby cries.

He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they'll ever meet.

You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything.

He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and remembers why he is fighting.

You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of men like him.

He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the wounded.

You see only what the media wants you to see.

He sees the broken bodies lying around him.

You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't.

He does exactly what he is told even if it puts his life in danger.

You stay at home and watch TV.

He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep, and eat.

You crawl into your soft bed, with down pillows, and get comfortable.

He tries to sleep but gets woken by mortars and helicopters all night long.

Well said. Too many things are taken for granted by us civilian folks. Now our troops are getting branded as "baby killers" and "rapists". Makes me sick.

Thanks to all who serve. Even from a country (mine) whose current leftist government deserted from their mission to support their allies and defend the freedom. Believe me: a lot of people here is ashamed of that, and support both our and your troops.

well here is the thing the rapists get what they deserve just cause they did it to iraqis doesnt mean it is right. and another thing that is just sick, iraqis are always sick because of their way of live, and i still can't believe people did that,

now the baby killer is a little different when our lives are in jepordy(?) you have to do what you have to do, when alibaba takes a little 4-5yr old and gives them a gernade with no pin and tells them to go to a soldier, thats a little different. just like how they are recuriting 12yr olds and giving them AK-47 to shoot at us, with the way ROE (Rules Of Engauagement) is now they are fine till they shoot at us, and then.....................
thats just one of the million things that makes life hard a soldier...

much love to our soilders. one reason why i am over here supporting them. but some of what is posted is not accurate. dod contractors work hard to make our soilders life more enjoyable today and they have many ameneties, comforts and time off because they do not have to do all the things needed for living comfortably. no laundry, cooking, power generation, mwr, electrical, carpentry, plumbing and so on is done by our soilders now. They are now able to focus on what they need to do and come back to the hooch for a hot shower, meal and whataever else suits there fancy. Qaulity of life is 100 fold better now than in Desert Storm and previos times. Thanks to our soilders for going outside the wire and for dod contractors who support them. Most of them are veterens also.

yes i agree but not in all places. you gotta think back to when they wanted what was it 20,000 more troops in baghdad, when baghdad is not even that big but leaving space is still tough they keep bring more soldiers to our fob. its so bad KBR had to build a tent city and they are having people at sick call for ear aches or something which it is usually a spider or a cock roach or some kind of bug in their ears., and you know when the DFAC is running out of food cause you have no choice and the food doesnt taste as good anymore... laundry use to be like a 12hr turn around and now its almost a week turn around. more and more soldiers are getting injured on the fob either from stupid acts or mortars or rockets. we just had an E-7 get killed on the fob because he told his soldiers that they can walk in a amber status on the fob...you got way to many stykers and tanks on the fob and all the digging going on. it is insane...
