I posted this question in another thread, but thought it might deserve it's own topic. I have wondered about this for a long time and have never had the opportunity to ask.
When a LEO decides to let you go; is it something he takes it upon himself to do? Is he actually granted authority to tell people to have a nice day when he lights them up for 80 in a 45? Your driving record and finances hang in the balance as this guy decides if he wants to issue a citation or not.
Although I am happy the county LEO didn't haul my arsh to jail or even cite me last year for 95 in a 45, I wonder what his superiors would do if they knew what he did.
Notice: I haven't said that you don't deserve a ticket when you break posted limits or reasonable driving habits, this is about the other end of a ticket. There are no flames here, I'm just asking a question.
