we had a 06 E250 come in with a bad fuel pump so we replaced it. Everything was fine until he filled up with gas and the new pump failed. We took the old pump apart and the molded plastic around the armature was melted. No burned wires anywhere. we're thinking it may be a high concentration of ethenol. I need answers because i've never seen this happen before. Thanks for the help in advance. Mr. bogus i know you must have some idea as to what this might be. thanks.

injectors maybe, that would make the pump work more but the motor would be struggling. Maybe the filter which again might make it run bad. Make sure it is grounded good, but if the pump is not submerged in gas, and you let it run almost empty then it will suck up all of the old bad crap that settles in the tank, which might have failed the pump. Hard call.

hmmm hate to say it but unless the first pump had similar failure, I would have to guess it is just a defective pump.. you might want to check under the pickup screen and make sure a piece of gunk did not get up in the impeller.. The gas in the tank usually works as the coolant to keep the pumps in tact (why running a FI vehicle empty is not a good idea)

Injectors will not cause it, plugged fuel filter will not either.. my best guess is a defective new pump... (see if it turns over and make sure you put a new filter downstream on that thing)

Is pretty rare to see new pumps take a hit btw... just keep your eyes open and you should find the issue when you tear it apart.. did the new pump just quit running?

Chances are it was a defctive pump.. But ot be on the safe side check all your power and ground leads. Melting of the plastic would pretty much rule out a clog in the strainer or the pimp as it takes a lot of heat ot do that.. I would say some kind of chemical reaction happened.. Maybe take a half gallon of the gas or so and put the pump in it to see what happens..

The new pump ran fine until he filled up with gas. we did put another pump in it and told him to get gas somewhere else. Guess we'll see if it's gas or some other issue. If it's the fuel i'll be sure to let everyone know because it could do the same thing to our pumps in the bikes. Like i said the only thing i saw was the plastic melted on the armeture.and got around the brushes and stopped the pump.
