Heres to you BigTool, you got me in the mood. Here a couple of photos showing my little custom home made backrest, no welding, or sewing needed.
Construction consist of using a 3' aluminum 3/4 tubing cut into three sections, 1/4 threaded rod the passes through the center 3/4 tube, spring, cotter pin,pin with adjustment hole, primer, black paint, and a foot of blackvinyl. Tool needed: hand drill but drill press is recommended, jigsaw but metal cutoff wheel used in a compound miter saw is recommended, and a staple gun.

Personally I like the Ventura but feel its a way over priced product, so I decided to make my own. I wanted one simiar but just a tab different than the Ventura, so I combined my backrest with a $118 Rev's Performance bike rack. The installing and removing of my backrest is easier with no tools, losing or fumbling with any turning knobs and can tilt foward as compared to the other backrest I've seen. I feel the overall function and appearnce of mine is better and is diffinetly cheaper.

The backrest is mounted into the grab bar holes on the luggage rack with the use of two spring loaded pins.

All I have to do next is make a removable cushioned pad.

The rack will provide back support for passengers and luggage while seated on rear seat or rear rack.

Thanks bro, hows that one little project coming along,Tex?

I have a 3" cushion I'm working with, that should be plently. If the wife get her license I'll just leave it for now and just use it as a brace for the luggage rack

Shid, I'm thinking about getting her one (her come the flamming)
