Bad luck I would like some opinions

So last Monday I was riding home from a friends house in a pretty big down pour. There is a section of the interstate out here that has some pretty rough spots that I knew I had to cross so I was going 5-10 below the posted limit. As the sheets of rain rain coming down :argue:1:argue:1 across what I was sure I already had missed. Right after I pulled over to check my pants and tires. Both were full about appropriate amounts

This weekend I had a chance to check what I thought was going to be just the front wheel. Turns out I have 2 semi-stop sign wheels now. (Pictures to follow tonight) Now here is my question, I have had my new insurance for 1 month :banghead:. Should I go ahead and make the claim or tough it out and come out of pocket? What about talking to the DOT?

I have some ideas and different routes I could go, I was thinking about spending the difference and replacing them with aftermarket wheels.

Anyway you all usually have good advice I figure why not.

Ok you sort of lost me on the issue but if you hit a problem in the road that caused damage to the bike, most municipalities have a fund for this..

IE: car hits massive pothole and bends rim.. they fix the rim and the pothole.. I have never done this before but do know it is done.. Call the city streets division and ask them about it.. as it was interstate, it may not be their problem but they probably know if you have any recourse with the state..

How much $$ damage is there? What is your deductible?

Sorry about your bad luck man. Pottholes and muffler bits scare the hell out of me on the roadways.

If you're serious about filing a claim, I'd check with your insurance company first just to make sure that such an incident doesn't increase your premium (it shouldn't).

I agree, check with city/state first then insurance. Let them take care of it if they will. If not, it might fall under comp on your insurance which usually does not raise your rates, but does sometimes affect your renewals.

Well, I bet the list retail price for OEM wheels is similar to Carrozerria or Oz or others that look great and are lighter and it would cost you $250 for that? If the city comes through, or if you have to use your insurance company, I know what I'd do! Raydog

So I made the claim and got the est. today. Shop came up with $2,200 which will include bearings, seals wheels and tires.

Hit a pot hole, even with my hyper pro steering damper the bar still nearly hit both sides of the tank. I was really surprised that it was that big of a hit and that I didn't end up pavement surfing! Going to get some pictures up today.
