Bad vibes

Hey guys,
Well I got the bike back up and running. For those who remember my clutch problem, all fixed. There seemed to be a lot of "gunk" packed into the slave cylinder on the lower LEFT side of the bike. Simple fix after all, thanks MSF.

Now for my question. There seems to be a fair amount of vibrations getting to the controls. My hands can't take it anymore cause I can't ride over about an hour before I can't feel my hands.

Any advice regarding any product that can reduce my bad vibes? I've heard of certian grips that reduce vibrations but the only ones I seem to find are those cheezy foam "Harley" grips. I would be interested in just about anything, short of suspending the whole steering head with bungee cords.

As always thank you in advance for all the good advice, Chris

Hey NC.. I had the same prob when I first started riding, then it went away, figured it was stress,... on the straights. just loosen up and give it a break.

TNJ can tell you how to make a Cruise control out of the choke lever and it works well!
I need to get with him and make that mod..
Take care,
Kevin

Hey VA,
Nah, I've been riding street since about 1988 and have never had this problem (unless it was after 300-500 miles). I agree with keeping it loose on the bars as it tends to solve control problems. I've ridden "hard-ly's" that have less vibes at the grip than my busa.

Cruise control using the "choke lever" (busa doesn't have a choke (no carbs). The lever is a "fast idle") That sounds like a worthwile idea, very interesting. Thanks, Chris

You might want to try Gel Gloves. They help me. Several glove makers offer them in summer, winter, and road race styles.

Are you sure that your bike does not have some problem that could be causing excessive vibrations? :super:

i use a throttle rocker on long trips on all my bikes even my 2003 ultra classic be careful usin it on the busa though as it does tend to promote speeding once your hand relaxes on it they are dirt cheep too like 10.00-15.00

hey Chris....haven't talked to you in a while...since yer rubber side DIDN'T stay down . How you doin' man ?
Anyhow....it didnt vibrate like this before did it?
This is yer wrecked / rebuilt right?
If its yer downed one,and now it has extra vibration that it didn't have before ,we got a problem bro .

If its the rebuilt, lemme know...we'll give ya a list of things to check .

You shouldnt need foam grips or gel mitts or anything .If it vibrates it has serious DESIGN FLAWS...or something is wrong.
For example: take an old Yamaha 650 twin . One of the most massed produced bikes of all time, why I do not know(that and them Virago's..YUCK ) anyway....flash one up in yer shop on its center stand giv it a little rev,the freakin' thing travels 10 feet across the floor. Yamaha put bar weights into the ends of the bars to try and stop the BAD VIBES . POINT IS....if it vibrates "outa the box" fine , "design flaw" , but thats not what were talkin' about here is it Chris ?
Let us know....

hav a good 1......RSD.

I too use a throttle rocker, got it off e-bay for $13.00. Still getting used to it, gotta position it just right on the grip or else you get a BIG surprise when countersteering if you know what I mean! Did help a lot with the right hand going numb.

Hey thanks for replying.

RSD, nice to be back and on track, thanks for your kind words. Anyway, No, I am not sure that something serious isn't wrong. The vibes seem to be stronger in mid-RPM, like 4-7k. The quality of the vibes seem to be constant. It's not like the vibes on a V twin (mild vibes mixed with harder hits). It just seem like holding on to a..well..a vibrator that someone replaced the AA's with a 12 volt Everstart.

I performed a cursory look at all of the mounting points and don't see any damage. The stearing head has no play to speak of. The front wheel I suppose could still be suspect. However, When riding at speed I can lean out to the side and see the front rim. I can not see any side to side play that may indicate a bend. Everything is tight and torqued to specs. I did change the rear tire which changed how the bike feels when it turns in, but I don't think it could increase the vibes, RSD or MSF what do you think.

It's not that the bike is un-rideable. During my usual 1/2 hour commute to work I can't even notice it very much. But when I Ride over a few hours it can really hamper the overall experience. Thanks again everyone, Chris

Check your bar weights full around with it a little. I have been riding mine for sometime and I do not pick up much vibration. If that is not enough get gel gribs and some good gel gloves, that should help a little.

Check to make sure your triple clamp is secure and flush against the forks. you could be getting a little vibration from there if you've had it off and replaced it.

Thanks guys,
I 've checked about everything I can think of, with y'all's help of course. I have decided that it was probably just in my head. Prob due to me taking 6 weeks off due to my misfortune. Anyway, I have either built up my tollerance or I have just gotten used to it.

Dezzy, Thanks for the triple clamp thought. That's one I hadn't thought of yet. I will check it tonight when I get home.

Have a good day. Chris
