battery charger question...

As some of you know, I'm in Iraq while my new busa is back at the house.  I left before I got a chance to get a battery charger, but I'll be back in a couple more months to hit this balls-to-the-wall mod frenzy I've whipped myself into, and one of the first things I want to do is get a battery tender.  My question is, can I safely leave the battery hooked up to a battery tender for extended periods of time, or do i just need to have someone turn it on & off every month or so?

TIA,

Hajii

it can stay on all the time if you buy a battery tender brand or one like it. it has a sensor  that will not let it over charge.
