Hello, I am new to the forum and havnt been able to find anything out about what years are the best for building a drag bike?!?!?! I have been an R1 rider for quite some time, but now Im turning my ways to the drag strip, so I came to the place that supports "the bike" thats known to be king of the strip! I am currently selling off all my R1 parts and current bike so I can devote to a new direction. Anybody want to help me figure this out??????????????????

If you can, you should go ahead and get a 08 or up. If not 99-07 are good platforms as well. Any year you cant go wrong.

I agree with BlueHaya. Start with a 08-up if you can. More power with a stronger transmission. If not I'd suggest at least an 03 to get past some of the major ugrades. Tank/Fuel Pump, ECU, Starter, and Clutch.

08 an up if you want a bolt on bike. older bike if you to go turbo.

honestly, the new bmw or the 1000 chassis are real appealing to me. also, look for the class you're trying to race in... wheel base limitations etc vary by displacement. i can tell you, the r1 would be my last choice. i'd rather race a 600 lol.

i took a stock motor, 62" wheelbase 08 down into the 20's. i know it had more in it because i was bottoming out on the taillihgt and tiger tail every launch. it had at least a 9.10 in it EASILY

IMO it would really depend on what class of drag racing you are looking into racing. All classes have differnt limitations or lack there of.

1. look at your budget
2. decide what class you want to run

for the money, you cannot beat a 1st gen busa as a bracket....if you are looking at racing heads up I would look at the new 1000's.

will this be a streetbike or race only bike?

I am currently out of the country, but when I get home I am going to make a trip to the drag strip and find out all I can about the diff classes and then start making some choices.

I am looking at having 9k when I get rid of the R1 and parts before dipping into my pocket for whatever I might need to get a good start.

I say that it will be a strip only bike but I am not 100% on that yet!?!?!?!?

I have been looking at various bikes on the site and Im leaning twards a turbo bike, but it will depend on how much further I will need to go with that to be competative locally. When its all said and done, I would like to have no more than 15k into it and I do all the work myself, so that helps alot with my goal!

Thanks for all the help, keep it comming if you think of anything else :beerchug:

What makes the 08 and up trans stronger?:poke:

I think the 99 to 07 is a better bike to mod being cheaper and only one set of injectors to deal with.
