Ok, i'm running 8psi @ 250hp.. Is 98 octane fuel and octane boost meet the requirement that the motor needs...

What fuel do you guys use for everyday use on the streets.?

I currently run just 98 octane. What is pinging... i have heard this word a million times but still don't know what it is or sounds like on the bike.

Thanks in advance.

If you have it, you'll know it, pinging, labor knocking all the same.Too much timing and not enought octane. It'll sound like a bunch of loose bolts in the valve train.I think with 8psi you'll be fine with the 98,when start getting around 12-14 and above, you'll need the good stuff and pull some timing out.

ok, thanks... well i've never experienced pinging yet...

Good, so 98 octane is good for what i got, yeah i'm only on low psi...

Thanks for your reply.

98 is fine assuming you are mapped ok  .. whats your A/F ratio look like?  with the correct mapping you can run standard Premium 94 octane pump gas alone.

My low is @ 6pds for 250hp pump fuel...@ 8pds my builder recommends a mix of 4 to 1 pump and race fuel...

The higher octane is so you do not get pre-ignition. If this happens you can have detonation before the plug sparks and blow valves are your piston becasue the timing is off. 96 octane for your setup is very good. HOWEVER DO NOT RUN HIGH SPEED RUNS FOR 15 SECONDS OR MORE WITH OUT 104, 110 116 IN THE TANK. The higher the better for long high speed runs. Also water injection will help give you some insureance. Just do not depend on the water for increasing your boost, use it as insurnace to help eliminate heat.

what is pds 's ??

Thanks for the info, i actually just got the motor rebuilt from pre-igniting... it broke rings and burnt pistons and they were starting to lift in some areas... ... i am very cautious of what my bike runs with now.. i guess i learned the hard way.....

So it is fine to give it a bit up to redline and then change gears on 98 pump fuel... as long as it has been mapped right...??

Thansk guys, much appriciated for ya help.

Pds is the same reference you use as psi...If your rebuilding your or have rebuilt your motor you need to decrease boost or run a mix of race fuel and add water or and intercooler...You didn't experience pinging because your freaking motor blew...If you don't do one or the other you'll be building another motor...

I run 7.5 lbs boost with water..... running 91-93 gas.

Remember it is how long you hold high boost also........... Very important, that is where you need 110 octane for insurance.

I own and race High horspower 4cyl. 700 hp on a 2.0 engine. C-16 fuel is best when it comes with turbo charged engines.

it still comes down to how your mapped. dont matter how much octane if your running lean
wow.gif

know your A/F ratio on what ever gas your going to run it on. ... I have mine mapped for Pump 94 octane. so I dont have to run race fuel.. its not set for Max HP I could run but based on keeping a good A/F ratio and getting enough fuel to the engine

yeah we decreased the boost, it was 1-psi, it's down to 8psi now... so i assume my motor should last longer this time..???
sorry, it was on "10 psi" not 1 psi lol

ok, well it has been mapped for 98 octane pump fuel at 8psi, so if i stay on the 98 octane and 8psi (assumeing mapping (A/F) is right) i should have lesser chance of dramas, but if i sit on high speeds and holding max boost (8psi) this is were i will come into dramas ?

Thanks heaps for your input, very much appricated, as i am always trying to learn about this wild beasts.
