Best Riding Gear Money Can Buy.

Just wanted to see what you guys thought was the best gear?? Keeping the COST out of the equation, what would offer the most protection per body part per say??

eg. Gloves = Icon , Boots = Sidi etc. etc..

If you want to get more specific model wise thats great too.

Personally I like Joe Rocket products but I dont have too much experience with different equipment.

The main reason I want to know is next year I want to ride with the best gear money can buy with the best functionality.

Your input is much appreciated.

I judge leathers by how well they stand up during a crash. My son has a Taichi suit he has crashed in mulitple times and they stood up well. I know one guy who crashed 16 times during one season and his Taichi suit was still useable at the end of the season.

I too, wear a Taichi suit. They are not cheap but I'm not sure there is a better suit out there?

For the best fit, you are better off to have Vanson or one of the other premiere manufacturers make a custom suit for you. You'll spend a bit more but the perfect fit is well worth the $$$$$$$$.

One other thing I can point out. My son is now sponsored by Joe Rocket. My Taichi suit is five pounds lighter than his Joe Rocket Suit but the Taichi costs twice as much!

Dainese! They are the best. Period! By far the best leather in the world. $2500
The Puma 1000 v2 boots offer both impact protection and ankle protection from the patented ghost doctor system. $400
Arai or Shoei helmets. The new rf1100 helmet is quiet and comfy $500
Held gloves----------unbelievably comfy, they have one model with kangaroo skin palms $250

My input: since he didn't say racing gear...I think the best jacket and pants money can buy is the Kevlar stuff produced by Cycleport. They are practically bullet proof. Kevlar is over 20 times more shred resistence than leather..period. Track guys like the leathers because they are lighter and more aerodynamic than the Kevlar. I would hate to see what a guy looked like sliding across Mexican asphalt with race leathers. Cycleport also uses soft armour because it doesn't transmit the impact into the body like hard shell with soft armour coating can. Also, think of bright colors for visibility. Believe me there is a body of evidence that supports high vis colors...white helmets..and such to be seen more readily. The other problem I have with leathers..which I rode in for many years is they make you sweat like a son of a gun when the weather is even warm. If hot...bring extra clothes and hope you can get a shower before coming into proximity of anythin human. New leathers take awhile to soften up and become comfortable. For racing it is leathers..for the street..it is only Kevlar for me..2hip

I'm a fan of Alpinestars Jackets and Pants leather is my preference but at times I'll wear the AS nylon pants with Forcefield Armor underneath which is considered to be some of the best armor out there by some.

Armor

For gloves I have tested the Held Kryptons and they are awesome, I just ordered their newest model the Titans and they look like they could take a beating.

Sidi boots are the best and I have put my B-2's through hell. I had the top of the line model Vertigo Corsa model which I sold. Lots of protection but to many straps. Good for the track I'm sure, but annoying for daily use and I always wear my boots. The B-2's are fast and easy to put on while still providing tons of protections. I'll be using the Vertigo Air's this next summer and they have a bit more protection then the B-2's.

AGV leathers are very affordable and good quality. Good for one crash at least. Dainese is the best as someone already mentioned, but pricey.

If I had the dough :

Leather Jacket or Suit (custom):
Vanson or SYED

Boots:
Puma 1000 v2 (Hmmmm... boot p0rn)

Helmet:
Nolan

Touring suit:
Aerostich Roadcrafter
(they're kinda snobby but the stuff is awesome)

Underarmor:
Forcefield
(I have Bohn but that's 'cause it's cheaper and done well by me but the Forcefield seems like the best)

Cold Weather Layer:
Schampa

I am having AGV leather jacket but heavy compared to Dainese titanium.More comfort for touring, less fatigue.Puma V2 boots are awesome.

Clover kangeroo gloves are comfortable.RF 1000 is good

+1 on Dainese!!!! I crashed in it this weekend and no tears, rips or anything...just some small abrasions. Both pants and jacket held up great. My SP-1 A-star gloves didn't fair as well but did their job. I will be looking for other gloves. Worth the money in comfort and protection.

Now all you fellas who have the best leathers "Period"! Post up how many times you've crashed in said leathers at 60 mph+!

Include photos!

Doesn't the leather wear better in a crash depending on how thick the human skin of the fellow wearing it?

I really wanted the Komodo leathers, but turns out you can not buy them from store stock...and no where to try them on, at least not that I could find~!~ I even put out a thread about them a while back...

I ended up with AlpineStars this go round~!~

Nolan helmets? first time I have ever seen them suggested...

wish I could afford custom fit leathers at all... any name would do... :)

I have a Joe Rocket leather jacket with the shoulder, back, and arm armor. Its just their basic black version called Sonic. Low sided my 09 R6 at 45-50 and it held up fine. Had a Shark helmet and it did its job well also. I dont have the pants yet or riding boots. I have Technic gloves with the armor on the knuckles. When I lowsided I only had the jacket and helmet on(always wear those 2 things), regular 30 buck WalMart special shoes, scrub pants, and no gloves on. Walked away with only a sore butt and a few grass stains on the scrubs that washed off easy. Not a single scratch or bruise anywhere. Think I probably used up my luck on that one. Would love to get a full leather suit and the works but noway I can come close to affording one.

Syed Custom Leathers - This set has a 55 mph low side & 110 mph high side.
Komodo K-FX Gloves - This pair has both crashes as well.
Sidi Boots - 2 crashes & all good.
Shoei Helmet - 110 mph high side & landed on it ...twice.
Alpinestars armor w/ back protector under my leathers. - It has been through 3 crashes.

Komodo makes great leathers, just didn't fit me.

I wear all of this EVERY time I ride, not just on the track.
